Navigating the Road: How Education Plays a Crucial Role in Preventing Accidents
The importance of educating drivers before they get on the road is very crucial. Not only does it educate people on how to drive the car, but also how to control the car. You might be asking, how are those different? It is pretty easy to figure out how to drive a car. You have an accelerator pedal and a brake pedal. You steer with the steering wheel and you use the gear selector to drive. But actually controlling the car is completely different. When I was in driver’s training, it was the first time I learned what hydroplaning is. I didn’t know it was possible for water to somehow get in between2 the tire and the road, which made you loose grip. I learned that when people lose control of their car, they panic, and try to swerve to get control. But through drivers training, I learned it is best to stay calm, and get over to the side. That the best thing to do when something happens to you or your car, is to remain calm, and not to go insane and start swerving.
We can easily reduce the number of deaths related to driving. First and foremost, it is important that everyone wanting to get their license must attend classes. No matter what age. It is important to attend classes to learn how to control your car. It is also important for for people to know how to inspect their own cars. So that they can know if they are safe to drive or not. Going along with that, shops should not be allowed to let cars go if they do not pass certain tests. For example, if a car has a broken break line, they should not be allowed to drive out of the shop. Another step we can take is during the education phase. When students are in classes, they should learn how to assess their vehicles and see if it is safe to drive or not. So that they don’t potentially endanger themselves or others while they are on the road. Finally, one of the most important things we can do is to try and limit distracted driving. My phone is always with me, and I always enjoy listening to music while driving, but sometimes, it can be a distraction. Drivers will constantly check their phones to answer texts, change their music, or even look at social media. During the education portion of driving school, distracted driving needs to be covered greatly. Using statistics and reasoning to informing new drivers about the dangers of distracted driving.
I have never been in a car crash thankfully. I was in the car with a friend one time, and he was going way over the speed limit. We were on the highway, where the speed limit was 75. He was going 90, and bragging about it. I was in the back-seat, telling him to slow down, and that we were in no rush. Not only was I concerned about getting pulled over and getting a ticket, I was concerned about more of the dangers that could occur. Like a car break checking us or a tire popping. It was concerning to say the least, but noting happened and we got to where we were going.
Personally, I can always find ways to become a better driver. I am always looking for ways to learn and ways to become a safer driver. One way I can do this is by being focused on my surroundings more, instead of only being focused on what is in front of me. Another thing is trying to accelerate slower, in an attempt to reduce me hydroplaning. Another way I can become a better driver, is by buying a magnet for my phone. The magnet I used for my phone broke, so I have been keeping my phone in a cupholer by my thigh. It leaves me being distracted on not dropping my phone when I want to change my music. Or I keep my phone on my thigh, where I am looking down when I change my music. Not focused on the road. By buying a new magnet or holder, I can focus more on the road, and have more of my focus on the road when I change my music.
In conclusion, there are many ways that we can make driving safer for everyone on the road. We can focus on the education of our drivers, make safety a priority, and find ways to be less distracted as we drive. In this world where cars have so many different features and functions, it is so important we can make newer drivers aware of the best way to handle obstacles when they arise.
