Educated drivers are less likely to speed, become distracted while driving, and other contributing factors that lead to accidents. Driver education helps reduce the numbers of deaths due to the proper training required to be considered a good driver, and to be safe on the road. Some steps that can be taken to reduce driving related deaths can be for starters; implementing more strict traffic laws that would enforce regulations like speeding and the limits, seatbelt requirements and violations, and warnings of unhinged and unsafe driving on the road. Another helpful step would be to improve driver education, using more real life scenarios and regular check ups on what the students are learning and their actual progress can be tracked. Encouraging more technology use inside vehicles would also be a great benefit, there could be automated breaks, lane assistance, and better speed limit monitors. Some cars that are of the newer models have these services installed, Toyota is one of the brands that have beepers that notify you when you are not in your lane and when you need to brake. These steps are ways that can make changes for road safety and can bring more change within drivers, with these installments most drivers will stay alert and will drive safely on the road which will lead to lesser numbers of accidents and deaths.

I actually was involved in a bad car accident and it left me bruised up and my car was totaled after months of investigation and patience. The accident was not my fault but I can still remember the loud sound of glass breaking as my window was shattered and I was pushed into traffic. The person who was involved in the car accident was actually speeding and knocked me into traffic and from there my car dragged out and it was very hard for me to gain control of the wheel but I did and from there my life changed. After losing my car, I vowed to drive even more safely on the road even with the accident not being my fault and to triple check before turning out into traffic. The accident also pushed me to remain calm on the road and to remember that even if you’re not in the wrong of an accident, you have to remain calm and contact the police immediately.

Some steps to become a better and safer driver would be to practice defensive driving where you stay alert, anticipate other drivers actions, and maintain a safe following distance. Avoiding distractions on the road is also good to minimize phone use, eating, or eating distracting activities. Cell phones have become the biggest distractions on and off the road and is the leading cause of accidents from the back and big trucks. There are plenty of articles that go into great detail about cell phone distractions while driving and the many reports of death and bad injuries that come as a result. Staying calm and patient while in traffic is also recommended , everyone has somewhere to go but it’s better to be safe and at a great pace than aggressively getting through traffic. Road rage is real as well and some drivers can be more crazy than others, losing your life or being harassed due to traffic mishaps is not something you would want and can be well avoided.

Regularly check your vehicle and ensure the brakes, lights, and tires are in good condition and are able to travel a good distance without any technical failures. Every year countless lives are due to road accidents that are preventable, following these steps listed will in fact save your life and others and help bring change to the safety on the road. Teenagers and the elderly are the most targeted as well, most teens are on their phones and older adults are more prone to driving slower and panicking.

Safe driving is more than a personal responsibility, it is a moral duty to ensure the safety of your life and everyone around you. Adopting these responsible driving habits will reduce accidents and create safer environments while coming into contact with other drivers on the road, which is what most hope for.
