Safe Driving: Education, Practice, and Awareness
Driving is an important part of life. Driving gets you to and from school, work, and everyday errands. But there is a risk you take when you are driving. There is always a chance of getting into a wreck on the road. There are steps you can take to make your odds of getting into a crash go down and keeping other people on the road safe.
First, is driver education. Being educated before you actually go off and drive is extremely important. You need to understand the basics and general rules of driving. Having an understanding of what to do in certain situations is very important. This is why you have to take a written test before you can get your learners. You have to understand the rules before you can physically drive. Without understanding the traffic rules you may cause a serious accident which could lead to serious death or injury. Making sure you understand the rules reduces your risk of death. Another thing that can be done to reduce the risk of death while driving is making sure you practice. When new drivers get their learner’s permit, it is time to practice. Taking the written driving test is one thing, but actually driving is completely different. You can understand all the rules, but implementing them is the main part. You have to know how to control the car and figure out how it drives. Get used to the brake and gas pedal, then understand how the steering works. Getting the hang of driving comes with practice. I know when I first started driving I was nervous and did not want to go fast at all. I had to work my way up from neighborhood streets and back roads, to main roads, then finally interstates. Make sure you start slow then build your way up. Making sure you practice driving enough will ensure your safety and safety of others when driving.
I have never been in a car wreck before, but I have experienced friends and family driving irresponsibly. Whether it is texting and driving, being immature, or just not paying attention. Every driver does one of these at some point. It is all about reducing these bad habits to eliminate the wrecks and number of deaths they cause.
Here are a few steps and tricks that can help assure your safety and the safety of others while driving. Step one is picking the right car for you. If you are a first-time driver and getting your first car, you do not need to buy a muscle car with a lot of horsepower or maybe a pickup truck that barely fits in the lanes. Pick a car with good safety reviews and that fits you. After finding your car you can take some steps to help you from getting distracted. The first step is not getting distracted by messing with your music. Listening to music in the car is perfectly fine, but when it gets to a song that you don’t like, and you look down at your phone so you can change it then it becomes a problem. One way to fix this problem is to put your music on a playlist, this way you won’t have to worry about changing a song when one comes on that you don’t like. In most modern cars there is a skip button in the steering wheel, when you press this button it will automatically skip to the next song. This allows you to keep your eyes focused on the road while pressing the button on the steering wheel. The next step is adjusting your climate. The temperature changes in your car from when you first start it to when you are driving. But a way you can fix having to mess with it while driving is adjusting it to the right temperature before you start moving. In the instance where you do have to change the climate you should be able to reach down and adjust it without having to look. You can do this by getting familiar with the buttons and adjustments for the climate in your car. Most cars have the climate underneath the screen and you press buttons to work it but I have seen some newer cars where the climate is on the touch screen.
Lastly, get familiar with your light controls and windshield wiper controls. Understand what buttons control which light and which setting controls the speed of the wipers. This way you are not driving down the road and don’t know how to turn your lights on. Same thing with the rain, driving in the rain is already dangerous and then you add not being able to control your wipers and it becomes deadly. To prevent this just make sure you are familiar with your car’s controls.
These are just a few tips that can help bring the risk of wrecks while driving. Driving is already dangerous, but with the right practice and understanding of your car you can take your risk of driving down.
