In order to be a safe, responsible driver it is important to understand all the rules and signs on the road. Driver’s education is important to teach us about these rules and signs, so we can prevent deaths and injuries from driving accidents. On the road, just one mistake can end up ending your life. To prevent these accidents, we all need to fully understand the rules of driving. This is important for new and old drivers as understanding new road rules is also very important. Just as in education where there are always new developments and new information coming about, on the road things are often modified to make the roads safer. However, these changes can end up being more dangerous when older drivers who were not taught about the new road rules, end up using these new systems incorrectly and cause accidents. My mom, for example, has a bad view on roundabouts which were a new road system implemented long after her time in driving school. My mom believes that roundabouts make the roads more dangerous, while I see them as safety measures to stop intersection accidents. The way my mom views roundabouts is not just because of her own beliefs but because she experienced when the first roundabouts were implemented, when no one really knew how to use them so people would go when they were not supposed to and accidents happened. This is why driver education is so important especially when new road systems get implemented. As a country we need to make sure that when new road systems get implemented people understand how to use them properly so that the new road safety has a positive effect, instead of the negative one my mom experienced. Additionally, as a person gets older in age naturally their driving becomes reckless. It is natural for people to get cocky with more experience driving. This makes it very important for new drivers to understand road rules as old drivers race around roads. If young drivers do not understand road rules, they can end up causing an accident with someone who is an older driver as new drivers often make late and nervous decisions on the road. For new drivers, not only is it important for us to have drivers education, but it is more important for us to completely understand the rules so we don’t make nervous decisions but confident decisions. A nervous decision in most cases is more risky than a cocky decision as you leave drivers confused and risk an accident. I have been in a car accident before with my parents driving, it was not there fault and it ended up being a hit and run. It was during the snow season so it was icy but the driver did not make an effort to fully stop in time. Since another driver made a risky and irresponsible decision, not adjusting their speed or driving to the weather, my whole family’s lives were put at risk. Accidents similar to mine can be mitigated if everyone on the road knows the rules of the road and abides by them. Understanding the effects of weather on driving and adjusting to them is just as important as understanding the rules of the road. Of course there will always be accidents that happen because people are not perfect, but the majority of the mistakes that happen are from uneducated and rule-breaker drivers. So it’s important that whether you are young or old you get driver training and abide by the rules in place. When new road systems are put in place it is important to make sure you are educated on how to use them. It is also up to our government to make sure we are informed as well. It is not smart to operate a heavy machinery vehicle without fully understanding the rules and systems of the road. Paying attention to the road and abiding by the rules at all times is a simple way to keep yourself and others safe. Also making sure you are educated on the reason for rules and what different rules mean makes a lot of a difference on the road. By implementing these solutions and keeping ourselves accountable our roads will be much safer. Driver’s education is there to help us understand the rules of the road so we can abide by them and drive safer and calmer.
