The
importance of drivers ed is to inform new drivers, particularly
teenagers, of how to drive and how to do it safety. Every driver must
learn important things before they can get a license. Some of these
important things are: what all the signs mean, what are the laws, and
how to drive offensively and defensively depending on the situation.
There are three steps to be taken individually to reduce deaths
caused by car accidents. The first one is to learn all laws regarding
driving and signs. The second is to practice the rules and
regulations of driving while driving, this includes actively
reminding yourself of these rules; do not fall into bad habits. The
third might be to ask a professional driver like a cop, semi-truck
driver, etc., ways they avoid being in an accident.
We
see high fatality cause by young teenagers, and older people after
retirement. A possible way to reduce this is to have an online
mandatory class to refresh all the laws and signs, keep it in the
young people’s minds while they are developing their life long
driving habits. For older people, they have slower reaction times, a
possible way to avoid letting them drive beyond the time they can
safely do so is to have a physical that can determine if they can be
quick enough to avoid a sticky situation. This might require doctors
to take away licenses which elderly will not be happy about, but many
will be safer including themselves.
Being
a young teen, you see most of your friends fall into bad habits while
driving. Every single friend that you ride with in a vehicle impacts
you. If the other person just watches you do dangerous things and
says nothing, they play a part in forming your bad habits. The most
common thing with teens now a days is they are texting while driving.
Most of teens do it, so their passengers do not say anything. There
are some people that I have rode with them once, and I never will
again. This is because their driving caused me to be concerned and
they did not take to suggestions very well.
Personally,
I have made goals and expectations of myself to be a safer and better
driver due to a recent minor car accident. I’m very strict about
being aware of my surroundings. I slow at uncontrolled intersections,
I look both ways before going, even at a green light, and I watch
other drivers so I can be on the defense if someone is driving
erratically. The next one is just a way to avoid being in a bad
situation that a police officer told me he does himself. This habit I
am trying to make is to take a different route to avoid turning or
driving on busy roads. Which has been really hard because taking
different routes means longer drive time resulting in having to wake
up/leave earlier, and it just goes against human nature;
self-centered.
