The Importance of Drivers ed
As a
teenager, I understand the constant need to check your phone to see
if you have any new notifications and stay updated with what is going
on around you. One of the main issues with that is self control. With
that constant need, it leads to a problem with being social and being
focused on what is in front of you which leads to driving. It is
severely important for teenagers to understand the significance of
drivers ed. Personally, I do not like to text and drive. It
gives me anxiety just thinking about it because how can you multitask
knowing if you make one mistake your life can be taken away in an
instance. Texting and driving is not only a problem on the road but
drinking and driving is as well. I was in a car accident once with my
family because of a drunk driver. Our car was totaled, we were
sitting at a red light when it happened. I felt like my life flashed
before my eyes, we were hit from the back of the car due to the drunk
driver hitting us at full speed. Our car started spinning into the
cars right in front of us, barely touching. I will never forget
because my life could’ve been taken away because of someone’s
careless mistake. Ever since, I was scared to drive after I received
my permit because I did not want to make a mistake and end up taking
someone’s life away, I would not be able to live knowing I did
that. After some time, I realized I cannot live my life in fear, I
just have to be extra safe while driving and be focused. There are
various ways to reduce the amount of deaths from driving everyday. I
am glad I take precaution while driving because I understand how
consequential it is to be safe on the road. To become a better and
safe driver you have to know your distractions and limit them. For
example, if you know you are the type of person to always want to
check your phone, you need to either turn it off or have self
discipline and not check it. If you really feel the need to answer a
text or a call while driving, wait till a red light or pull over. You
have to keep in mind as a defensive driver, not only do you have to
be mindful of how you are driving but others as well. If you know you
are going to drink, I would recommend not driving, it would be smart
for that person to ride with someone else or utilise tools such as
Uber to be safe. The importance of drivers ed is to help people
become aware of the dangers of driving so it can be avoided and
potentially decrease the rate of deaths from driving. Driving is a
powerful responsibility that should be taken seriously and everyone
should realize that, new and old drivers.
