The Importance of Drivers ed

Driving
is a skill that takes time to develop and perfect. Of course, any
seventeen year old can go to the Department of Motor Vehicles, take a
road test, and earn their license. Yet, a license does not make a
good driver, education, caution, and practice make a good, safe
driver. Not only does drivers ed statistically lower the number
of deaths caused by driving, it also enlightens the driver to all of
the rules of the road, how to control a vehicle, how to maintain
safety in a vehicle, and the mistakes previous drivers have made, and
how those mistakes affected their lives. In order to reduce the
number of driving related deaths, drivers should always drive with
caution, refrain from texting, drive defensively, and wear their
seatbelts. New drivers can also practice driving, accompanied by a
trusted adult, in order to improve their skills. I have witnessed
family members and friends act irresponsibly while driving,
specifically by using their phone, or driving over the speed limit.
Personally, I chose not to drive irresponsibly, and I plan to
continue to be a safe defensive driver. One way I feel I could
convince my peers to drive safely is by educating them on the risks
of being an unsafe driver. Specifically, showing the consequences of
speeding, texting while driving, and any other form of irresponsible
driving.
