What if your loved ones were in the other driver’s seat?

What
if your loved ones were in the other driver’s seat?

We
all have a loved one, yes? Someone who we cannot bear to live
without? Someone who brings light to our life and can make our frowns
turn upside down? We have laws and regulations implemented to help
not only ourselves, but others get home safely when it comes to
driving. However it has been proven many times that no amount of
regulation can prevent driving related deaths. I believe that holding
the driver accountable for the capabilities they hold while driving,
can light a fire for precaution.

For
me, the need to have emotionally set responsibilities with driving
has been shown through the recklessness of my parents. I have two
incidents in mind, the first one includes how my mother got my
sister and a co-worker into a car crash in the front yard while doing
“donuts”. The jeep they had been using was flipped upside down
and luckily no one died . Another incident includes my dad and my
uncle doing coke while driving on a long dark road. He had my sister
and I in the back and told us to “ Put your heads down and
don’t look!”

Both
of my parents thankfully live changed lives now, but their actions
have never drifted from my mind. They were responsible and loving
adults that had their driving education. Why did they still act so
recklessly
? Neither were thinking of the law nor the lives they
were potentially putting in danger.

Driving
education placed the fundamentals of HOW TO DRIVE but couldn’t
place an emotional responsibility to follow them with precaution. Our
communities and ourselves are the only beings who can place this
responsibility to its official importance. Many driving schools/
courses have recently been taking initiative and making commercials
that show accidents happen through people’s recklessness and lack
of emotional responsibility. Seatbelts and taking an UBER or taxi is
also recommended through bars and from family members. These are just
some of the many ways people have prevented deaths related to
driving.

The sole factor of whether someone dies while driving can be
determined through another. Therefore, when you see a commercial or
hear a story where another careless driver caused an accident which
resulted in deaths, remember to think “ What if it was “ insert
loved ones name here
” ? Be a reminder to others to not attempt
driving while under the influence or act recklessly when it comes to
driving. It is incredibly necessary to take in the fundamentals, as
well as the responsibility one holds while driving and implement them
in our own lives. Driving education ‘s purpose isn’t only to
enable you to a world of mobility but also to take responsibility in
your actions. Through this, someone will be able to smile and see
their own loved one make it home safely.
