The Dangers of the Road
Driving
is a privilege that many millennials take for granted. In my driver
education class, I learned that people from ages 16-25 are more
likely to be involved in a fatal car accident than any other age
group. Personally, when I was told this statistic I got scared
because I am in this age group and I have a phew years until I get
out of it. I believe every millennial should be aware of this
statistic because than they will take driving more seriously. Even if
you are not in this age group it is still your job to make sure you
drive safely.
Driver
education is extremely important in reducing the number of deaths as
a result of driving. These classes teach young drivers all the rules
of the road for their state and how to be completely safe on the
roads. If drivers ed classes weren’t a requirement then our
country would have higher death rates and many reckless drivers on
the streets. One step that can be taken to reduce the number of
deaths related to driving is to require every citizen with a drivers
license to attend a drivers ed seminar every five years to
renew knowledge, and to teach new and safer driving methods. Another
step is to make Driving and Texting Laws more strict because 26% of
car accidents in the US are caused by the use of a cell phone.
I
have experienced members of my family and friends drive irresponsibly
by texting and constantly looking down at their phones. One step I
can take to become a better and safer driver is to constantly
practice the skills I learned in my drivers ed class. A step I
can take to help others become safer on the road is to offer to
respond to messages for them, to handle the GPS for them, and to take
control of the radio. A second step I can take to stay safe is to
constantly check my mirrors and blind spots. Another step I can take
to help others to stay safe is to make sure they are wide awake and
attentive to what is happening around us.
In
conclusion, driving is a very serious matter that can’t be taken as
a joke. Everyone on the road has a responsibility to drive as safely
as possible every time they get behind the wheel. If everyone
utilizes the tools they were taught during drivers ed classes
than they will be a better and safer driver.
