Safe Driving Essay.
My
mother was a surgeon and would tell me horror stories of pregnant
mothers speeding to the hospital to give birth and die in labor
because their spouse would speed or weave through traffic to get to
the clinic in time. If every person who got their license had a
personal traumatic story in their family they would all think twice
about texting and driving or changing the song, and many people too
but sadly a lot of teens truly do not have a story to connect with,
so they don’t connect at all. In drivers ed teaching safe driving is
extremely important but the stories I heard from cops they brought in
were more impactful than any driving lesson ever was. It’s easy to
tell a kid don’t speed, or drive under the influence but seeing a
video of an accident from a drunk driver or a letter written to the
mother of someone who passed away saying her son died because of a
reckless driver will always be more impactful than any fact or
lecture. “I’ve personally met up with quite a few legless,
armless and other badly messed-up folks. There’s a whole lot of
mighty serious accident contemplation going on in our hospitals. My
observations have taught me that it is much better to think about
accidents before they happen than to brood on them afterward. …
Personally, I’d rather be late for dinner tonight here than to be
on time for breakfast in the next world in the morning. Haste makes
waste of a lot of good human material.” – Irvin S. Cobb I think
if driving schools had longer wait times from Temps to full License
or tests that had parts that were about what you would do as a driver
in this situation as a part of how to get your license, the results
would be very positive. When I was in seventh grade my best friend at
the time was a very dedicated ice skater. She would go to the ice
rink before school to practice and usually would be on the road at
4:30-5 am every morning. One day after practice her and her mother
were running late and her mom was going a bit faster than usual in a
school zone and another mom backed out and T-boned her car directly
in the passenger seat giving her serious injuries. She had whiplash,
a broken rib and arm and a fear of driving with her mother that
lasted much longer than her injuries. She had to quit Ice skating
that year, which truly changed her personality and demeanor and she
became a bitter person. Since then she has healed and gone back to
skating, but never got back to the level she was at and even after
her injuries healed her spirit inside her and stayed trapped in the
car wreck she faced that morning. I will make sure every day I am on
the road to never speed, be distracted or intoxicated while in
control of a vehicle because one text or a missed meeting is never
worth ending, or ruining someone’s life.
