The Importance of Drivers ed

Driving is a daily activity that is very convenient, but extremely dangerous. Drivers ed is the most important thing to learn and continually put to use. It not only teaches you how to drive and the laws of the road, but it teaches you how to drive safely in order to keep you and other drivers safe. A thorough knowledge of drivers ed protects the driver and everyone on the road.

There are many steps that can reduce the number of deaths related to driving. First is obeying all the laws. This is as simple as stopping at a red light and as serious as driving the posted speed limit. Second, a driver should not have any distractions that could affect their driving. These include, but are not limited to phones, loud music, drugs and/or alcohol. Lastly, a driver should give themselves adequate amount of time to reach their destination.

I was in a car accident a few years ago that changed my life forever. Before the accident, I would have the tendency to be late to situations. I would leave my house at the last minute and would be forced to rush to get to my destination which resulted in me speeding. The morning of my accident, I woke up late for school and had to rush to get there. A car in front of me was speeding and I followed at the same pace. Not to my knowledge, traffic began to build up a mile ahead of us. I vividly remember the car in front of me switching lanes at the last second as he barely missed the car ahead of him that was at a complete stop. I did not have enough time to react to change lanes at the last second, so I rear-ended the car. This was the scariest moment of my life. We pulled onto the side of the highway, made sure we were both unharmed and exchanged information. Once the other driver pulled away, I got into my car, got off at the next exit, pulled over to the first parking spot and began crying. I was so upset with myself because I could have easily lost my life. It is a moment I will never forget.

From then on, I have always made sure to give myself ample amount of time to get to my destination. This way, in case there is an accident or traffic, I still give myself enough time so there is no need to rush. In the off chance I am running late, I make sure not to rush myself, it is better I get to my destination late, than not show up at all. That is one of the most important lessons I have learned in life. It changed the way I drive and the way I live my life.
