Respect The Road: Educate Yourself On Driving

Every day, people commute all around the world. Driving has affected our society greatly, to the point where having a car and being able to drive is essential to getting to where we need to go. There’s barely any time when the roads are empty. Knowing the proper driving instructions and being knowledgeable about road safety is important due to these instances. Accidents happen on the road, but they can be prevented if people are following the rules. Road safety is important because it can protect those on the road. It can our loved ones from ever being in a car crash. Just by knowing how to drive drops the percentage of there being a crash in the first place. The number of deaths on roads is massive, but if there is more drivers ed, we can reduce the number of deaths and commute safely.

There are many ways to be safe on the road. The biggest way to be safe is to stay focused. cellphones, food, and even music can be a big distraction on the road. A crash can happen in a matter of seconds, which is why having distractions puts every driver on the road in danger. These distractions are preventable. Instead of eating on the road, wait until you are done driving or if you really must, find an area to park, and eat. Most smartphones have features that disable the use of cellphones on the road. Texts and calls that are received while those features are on are silenced, automatically sending a text letting those who are attempting to reach you that you are on the road. instead of changing your music every second, make a playlist so that you won’t need to go searching for songs. These tips have helped me tremendously to become a better driver. if I had used these tips I could have prevented my accident.

I have been irresponsible myself, and if I had stayed focused I could have saved myself from a lot of trouble. Not too long ago, when I was driving on a busy road, I became distracted when I was switching lanes. I had received a call and picked up my phone to see who was calling. My mistake was not checking my mirrors and I bumped into another driver. The accident was not bad, but it could’ve been worse. I could’ve cost a lot more damage and possibly driven both of us off the road if i didn’t pull away fast. Of course, I had to pay off damages that I did to the other driver( which is ALOT for an 18-year-old).

Do yourself a favor, and do what I did that day. Become a better driver by following the laws of the road, and being vigilant on the road. If everyone takes these steps, together we can all commute safely and keep each other safe.
