Driving education shows young, impressionable new drivers the real effect every decision we make behind the wheel has on ourselves and the people and world around us. Steps that can be taken, or have been taken, are fines and jail time for one-handed phone usage while driving, a 3-strike warning system before having a license suspended along with mandatory reevaluations, and more jail time for drunk drivers and speeders. I have never personally been in a major car accident but some family and friends have. I’ve also had a friend pass away from a car accident just last year and have been more cautious on the roads and in calling out family members mistakes. As a driver, I can make moves for myself to stop my personal distracted driving habits, such as using my phone and getting distracted by music. As a passenger, I can call out my friends and family for their own distracted driving habits as I see them occurring.
