Driver Education is Your Friend

“Driver Education is Your Friend”

To be blunt, driver education is in my opinion, the single most important activity that could be taken to reduce the number of deaths as a result of driving. There are many different way in which driver education can happen such as in driver education classes and private driver education schools. But one can also gain education through caring parents or family members, online videos and articles and through books and magazines. The knowledge gained through any of these means will give invaluable information about driver safety.

Besides taking formal classes, there are many other steps one can take to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. Basic safety precautions should always be taken such as wearing a seatbelt, wearing proper driving shoes and perhaps wearing sun glasses when needed. Keeping good wiper blades on the car and making sure all lights and signals work properly is a must. Be sure to maintain the vehicle properly with regular oil changes and checkups. Make sure the tires are filled with air appropriately and not worn out. Never drive when overtired or under any influence of alcohol or drugs. Never drive while distracted by something and never text and drive. Use a hands free device with cell phones if you need to use it for navigation or for talking. Also prepare properly for road trips, always making sure to be familiar with and comfortable with the route.

I am blessed so far to have never experienced a car accident however I have witnessed my grandfather texting while driving. I’m proud to say that I spoke up and asked him not to do that while he was driving and I explained how dangerous it is. He was understanding and respected my wishes and stopped using his cell phone during our drive.

I can become a better and safer driver by signing up for an occasional driver’s education class because getting a refresher on all the rules and regulations is always helpful. Letting too much time pass without a refresher is a mistake in my opinion. I can also make it a point to always follow the advice and information that I’ve discussed in this essay. As far as helping others to become safer on the road, I think the two most important things I can do is to always be a good example to others with my driving and to never be afraid to offer my help.
