Drivers responsibilities
Throughout my 17 years of living I’ve witnessed many car accidents that could have been avoided, and many mistakes that could have turned into bad accidents. Drivers ed is a very useful program for young people who are new on the road. There are many laws and tips that are taught in Drivers education that should be taught to every driver on the road. Drivers ed teaches people not to drink and drive, never drive when sleepy or drowsy, on any medication that could affect a person’s mental state/concentration because concentration is a very important factor in driving. I feel as if not only young people should be required to take drivers ed but also adults. I have been in the car with many adults that drive too fast/carelessly thinking they won’t get into an accident. Switching in and out of lanes without being positive no one is in their blind spot, not using their blinkers, driving extremely fast while turning. I personally almost drove into someone switching lanes due to them not turning on their blinkers. 2 of my friends in 2019 got into a car accident due to the driver not slowing down while turning, he lost control of the wheel and the whole car tumbled a few times onto the side of the road. The emt told them they were lucky they were all wearing their seatbelts or else they wouldn’t have survived the accident. A few years back we lost a girl in our community to a drunk driver, she was on her way home from a concert and a drunk driver drove right into her side of the car. All these accidents I’ve brought up could have been avoided and can be avoided in the future. People should better educate themselves on driving under the influence or driving carelessly since many lives could be on the line due to one simple mistake. I believe that people should be tested more on what they know about driving and the consequences they could face from one mistake every few years. I also think if people are caught driving under the influence they shouldn’t get a warning, or a light consequence, the individual should get their licence suspended and should have to take drivers ed to educate themselves on how dangerous that is. Many people think its cool to drive recklessly, teens these days think racing each other on the highway or on the street is “cool” or “fun” however it is very dangerous and could cost them their lives. Some people will never know how it feels to lose someone to a car accident, so they won’t care to drive safer as much as those who know the feeling of losing someone to an accident. I feel that people who have lost someone close to them due to a car accident should come out and speak out more about the topic and shine light on it, so those who have not been affected personally can see how people that it has affected deal with it.
