The Importance of Drivers Education

In order to be a safe driver one must know the rules of the road and how to safely operate a vehicle. Like any heavy machinery, it can not only cause severe injury to you, but to others as well. When I was 5 years old I saw my aunt’s car and thought to myself I can drive that it’s easy! And was confident that I could. Did it happen? Absolutely not. Teenagers and young adults are often overly confident, and believe they can accomplish something by practicing once or barely at all, not even thinking about the thought of putting someone in danger or even themselves at times, I’m guilty I was one of those people. These days with smartphones, there is a lot of distracted driving. In order to decrease this curb, I would suggest using Bluetooth so that your hands are on the wheel and your eyes are on the road, or just wait until you reach your destination to make your call/text. At the age of 16 while driving on my way to work, I was looking at my phone and looked up not realizing that the car in front of me had stopped, I almost slammed into the back of that car because I looked down for a second. That’s all it takes is a second. With driving services like Lyft and Uber taking off, you would think the number DUI cases would decrease. I would suggest anyone to use these apps if you plan on doing a night on the town just to be safe, or if you see someone that’s had way too many drinks, be a Good Samaritan and call them a ride. If you aren’t comfortable let someone else drive or if you’re just starting out always have someone experienced with you at all times. They may critique you, but trust me it’s all worth it. It’s better to be a by the book driver than end up driving into your neighbors living room as an unexpected dinner guest. I took a few steps to be a safer driver. I’ve learned to slow down and not speed because I don’t want my insurance premium to go through the roof, and what’s the rush? I know that if I have to be at an appointment at a certain time, to leave early to reduce speeding. I don’t drink and drive, if I plan on going out and I don’t have a sober driver I take Uber. I put my GPS directions on before I leave the house so that I’m not typing and driving. My phone is usually in the cup holder or seat next to me and I don’t respond to messages until I reach my destination. Always wear your seatbelt! I think most cars are updated to where it beeps at you the entire time if you don’t, not only is it annoying but it should be a habit. It’s the little things that don’t seem significant at first that can actually save your life. .
