Keep Up With Safe Driving

Driver education classes are often thought of as punishment classes taken by those who have been caught doing wrong on the road, but that is not the case. Driver’s education courses are for everybody and serve great importance in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving. The biggest thing these classes are doing to prevent driver deaths is first, before getting anyone behind the wheel, teaching about the rules of the road. This is important because someone may think they know the laws, but they may have a frightening realization in a driver’s class that they were wrong. This could prevent something as little as an illegal turn, and therefore prevent an accident. The second and another obvious thing these courses are important for are actually teaching the driving process. Being able to get a new (or experienced) driver behind the wheel in a safe place is crucial for preventing accidental deaths. It gives a safe driving experience without being on the road with other cars and therefore takes away the threat of accidents.

Steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving are first and foremost requiring a driver’s education course to be able to get one’s first driver’s license. This just ensures the person knows how to drive and the road rules. One major step that can be taken is to not have a cell phone near when driving, as this can lead to texting and driving, which, as most know, can be fatal. Even one person choosing to not answer that text, call, or other notification is at least one life saved and a huge step in the right direction. Another thing that can be used to prevent death in drivers is simply having more police cars on patrol. People tend to slow down and be more cautious if they see a police car on the road with them, especially if it’s a speed trap on a freeway.

While I have not ever had the experience of being in a major car accident, I have been in a very minor one. When I was very little, another car pulled out into ours and then took off. No one was hurt but it was scary. I have also been in a car while a friend or family member was driving irresponsibly. I have been in many different cars where the driver had their phone in front of their face while driving and this is exactly the reason I feel strongly about the prevention of drivers deaths because it very well could happen to anyone. There are many people out there that think it’s always going to happen to somebody else.

In order to become a better driver myself, I can certainly start by taking a driver’s education course. Although I have not taken one, I would consider myself a safe driver, but again, there is always room for improvement. I can help others become safer on the road by reminding them to put the phone away if I see them using it on the road. The most important thing I think I could do is to just be a good example for everyone else on the road.
