Controlling the Wheel

Controlling the Wheel

Throughout the duration of our Drivers’ Training, we learn to not only control the wheel, but a few other things such as our emotions, awareness, and thoughts. All of this can also start as early as Driver’s Ed as we are introduced to the many concepts of driving. Throughout the course of Driver’s Ed, we go through many sections of content, teaching us the basics such as the accessories of the car, to the rules that we have to follow on the road. All of this is learned to develop safe drivers and prevent future accidents. Once the content is drilled in our heads, we begin to apply this on the road through Driver’s Training. Through our own practice and Driver’s Training, we start to realize what kind of driver we are, the many types of drivers out there and the things that we can and cannot control. Spending more time on the road gives us experience and helps us fine tune the small things in driving such as our positioning on the road and our decision making.

There are rules that we have to abide by whenever we hit the road, and by following these rules we are able to keep our lives and the lives of others safe. There are things we can control such as getting enough sleep to have a reaction to any sudden changes on the road, and if we sleep early, we may find ourselves not rushing to our next destination. We can avoid things that will affect our driving such as any form of drugs as well as alcohol. We can also make our environment free of distractions by putting our phones on silent, but if there are messages or calls that we cannot miss, there’s always the option of finding the nearest exit or pulling over to avoid the risk of an accident. If we keep these things in control, the better our driving experience will be, giving us more control over the wheel keeping you and other drivers around you safe.

In order to be a better driver, we have to make the driving environment that’s best suited for us free of distractions such as our phones through means of texts, calls or even looking for which song to play next. If we have a passenger with us, ask them to co-pilot if you don’t know the directions to your destination or to help you stay awake if it’s a long drive. By being a better driver, we keep a good distance from other drivers on the road, and we stay within the speed limit. There are some things beyond our control such as the emotions of other drivers. Do not let any drivers irritate you for this will create road rage and will put you and the other drivers around you at risk of causing a huge accident. At the end of the day, we all want to reach our destinations safely.
