The Need for Drivers Education

The Need for Drivers Education

Driving has made a major impact on our modern society. Driving has enabled humans to travel like they never could before, and allowed us to grow our cities into large and diverse communities. Thanks to driving, we have the freedom to go almost anywhere whenever we want. Although driving has been a blessing for humans and modern society, it has come with its own problems. Cars, and fossil fuel vehicles, raise some concerning issues. Should they be completely electrically powered? Should cars be allowed to become self-driving? What is the impact on the environment? The biggest issue surrounding cars since their inception, however, is driver safety. Car accidents and deaths from car accidents are a major issue and with an average 34,000 car related deaths per year, being a safe and educated driver is more important than ever. As a society, we must come together and protect ourselves by ensuring that safe driver education is taught to all. By providing everyone with the skills and knowledge of how to safely and responsibly drive, we can expect car related accidents to decrease. If we can share and establish safe driving habits in all drivers and show the importance of respecting the roads and other drivers, road safety will certainly increase and car related deaths will fall. As a community of safe drivers we need to make a commitment to assure that we are all making the safe and right decisions when sharing the road with others. We need to focus on the road and other cars, reduce distractions such as phones, have a plan for where we are going, maintain safe driving distances between cars, stay at or below the speed limit, concentrate on defensive driving, and assure ourselves that we will never drive under the influence. If drivers follow and live by these rules and other safe driving habits, we lower the amount of car related deaths that occur annually.

I will work to uphold this commitment of having and following safe driving habits. I will be more aware of vehicles around me, remove distractions as much as possible, and work on driving defensively to ensure the safety of myself and others. Even though I am still a relatively young driver and have had my license for less than a year, I feel that drivers of all tenures should responsibly share the road and drive to ensure the safety of all. While I have never been involved in a car accident while driving, I have witnessed irresponsible driving by my friends. Unnecessary speeding, going through red lights, and not checking blind spots are some of the many issues that my friends struggle with. My friends are not bad people and I know they mean no real harm to others, but their actions have major consequences. Most people do not intentionally mean to cause accidents, but bad habits can lead to irreversible results. This is why the community of drivers needs to ensure safe and responsible driver education is shared with everyone. If all drivers practiced safe habits and followed the rules of the road, car accidents and deaths would fall and society would be better for it.
