Safety First, It Never Hurts
As a teenager, I can attest to the fact that teenagers do get excited to start driving; and unfortunately, some choose to abuse that privilege to be able to do so. Because of this, drivers Ed has been strictly enforced in order to receive a driver’s license. Teenagers going through this three to four-week course takes us step by step to learn the rules, signs, effects, costs, and consequences of driving. This is to fully understand how driving works and also the damage it can do.
We read and understand statistics of teen driving deaths, many including drunk driving and texting while driving. Going through this course does reduce the numbers of deaths as a result of driving because those who have gone through it know how it can negatively affect lives.
Steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving are making sure driving tests and drivers ed courses are fully understood and collaborative to learn best from them. This will help drivers Ed students go more into depth and be fully aware of surroundings when driving.
I, personally, have recently experienced being in a car accident. Although the accident was not my fault, it definitely was still a learning experience for me. I could have easily lost my life but luckily I didn’t, and from that situation I realized that even if I am being a responsible driver, other drivers may not be.
With that being said, what I have come to understand is that even if you are driving responsibly on the road, always make sure to be buckled up securely, watch other drivers driving on the road, being aware of your surroundings. Drive according to the speed limit, and make sure when you are switching lanes to use the rear view mirror and the side mirrors to make sure no one may be right next to you or coming at a full speed. Even if there may be no one driving that you can see, it never hurts to double check and just be sure. You can never go wrong always putting in extra effort to be safe on the road.
