Drivers Ed Scholorship
Millions of Americans die each year from car crashes, many of which do not have the recommended drivers’ ed material used to carry on a lifetime of healthy habits and keep drivers knowledgeable and safe. Many drivers don’t realize this when they first start driving and get behind the wheel, but 1 in 5 Americans get into a car crash with injuries sometimes not fatal each year.
The importance of drivers education is reducing the rate of deaths is teens taking Drivers Ed are less likely to be involved in crashes or get pulled over in the first few years of driving. The reductions of teens are much more meaningful in the younger driving years. The steps that can be taken to prevent these tragedies from taking place are simple, follow traffic laws, avoid distractions, especially phones and alcohol, and drive well rested.
I got into a car accident a week after I got my license. I wasn’t paying any attention and I rear ended someone going very fast and it all happened so quickly. I hit my head on the side of the car and had to get checked out by my father, a nurse. I hit a truck and my small car did no damage to his huge truck. It did destroy mine tho. I totaled my car in one week. I couldn’t believe what I did just because I wasn’t paying attention for a split second.
My mom and I were in a rush on our way to Kansas City one time, and she looked at her phone and thought the red light turned green. Instinctively she went as the cars were turning towards us at the same time in the intersecion. At that moment I was more scared for my life than my actual wreck. We ended up not hitting anyone and not causing a wreck. We were incredibly lucky to not hurt anyone else or had any damage. I will never forget my mom and I turning towards each other in shock after it happened because she wasn’t paying attention for a split second either. Luckily no lives were lost in the span of our carelessness.
The steps I can take to become a safer driver would be to drive at a safe speed, look both ways, and avoid distractions. I have driven with many friends in my car before and drivers had prepared me for that distraction because I did it with my two best friends. If I didn’t take Drivers Ed I wouldn’t be the safe and cautious driver I am today.
