Drive Safely

The importance of drivers education is very crucial to young drivers. Drivers education is important for the prevention of serious future accidents and death in the future. Driving on the road can have very serious consequences, death, permanent injury and serious damage to one’s body, mind and health. If a driver experiences lack of attention to the road, consumption of illegal substances or even disobeying the speed limit it can lead or cause serious consequences not only for the driver but those with and around them. Drivers education is the first and most important thing that comes with driving because this is where you learn the rules of the road and the do’s and don’ts.

The steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving is to practice safe driving. Before entering onto the road make sure you know where you are going, and the safety of the roads. Double check to make sure you understand signs, school zones and crossings. Make sure your vehicle is in good condition and all lights on the dashboard are not on, check brakes and oil before leaving as well as tire pressure. Be a defensive driver and not an offensive driver, be ready for anything and everything, make sure to anticipate the actions of others on the road. Drive only when you are in good physical and mental condition, obey all road laws and speed limits.

I have experienced a family member drive irresponsibly and that was when I was at a very young age. My father would go to parties for holidays or for celebrations and drink alcohol. Instead of staying at the house we had the party at he would insist on driving home while being heavily under the influence. I remember this experience like it was yesterday, he would speed and swerve all over the road. Lucky for us it was during the night so there was hardly anyone on the road but that is why I always fell asleep, to think maybe the car ride will go by faster. Experiencing this made me realize the seriousness and the importance of practicing safe driving.

The steps I take to be a better and safer driver is to make sure I complete my checklist. On my checklist I make sure to check my oil, the gas, the front dash to make sure no lights are on and I make sure my brakes are working properly. Secondly, I make sure I have my seatbelt on as well as everyone who is in the vehicle with me. Third, I check and make sure I know where I am going and how to get there because driving confused on not knowing the directions can cause an accident. I also know to not drive if I am physically, emotionally or mentally unprepared for anything that can happen, especially since this can also cause me to lose focus of the road and not being 100% engaged with the road.
