It is tremendously important for individuals to be educated about driving before they start, to prevent accidents and even deaths on the road. Being knowledgeable about it allows individuals to be safer on the road because they can understand what to do, and what not to do as they are driving. Driving while uneducated is extremely dangerous because the individual most likely does not understand how to drive correctly or safely. This could cause accidents, which could lead to injuries or death. Therefore, when individuals drive without being knowledgeable, they are putting their lives and many other lives at risk. Simply being educated and obtaining a driver’s license before driving, can save not only their own life, but many others.

Steps to reduce the number of deaths related to driving, include following the laws. For example, do not drink and drive and wear seatbelts. If everyone followed the laws, it would lower the number of deaths significantly. Another step is to get rid of all distractions. Individuals should put their phones or electronics far from their reach or in a bag. This prevents them from reaching for their devices. Individuals should also not continue driving if they are distracted. For example, if someone is arguing with another person while they are driving, they should park the car and sort everything out, before they continue. Lastly, individuals should be patient with the other drivers on the road, and they should remain calm.

Thankfully, I have not been in a car accident, but I have experienced family and friends driving irresponsibly. Once, when my mom was very angry, she was driving recklessly and almost crashed. Impatience and anger on the road put many lives at risk because she could have crashed while we were all in the car. Another time that I experienced someone driving irresponsibly, is when I went over to my friend’s house. My friend attempted to drive her parent’s car with both of us in it. She did not have a license at the time or have full knowledge of driving. She drove a short distance before stopping because we knew that what we were doing was very dangerous.

Steps that I can take to be a better driver, are not my letting emotions get in the way of my driving. For example, if I am upset while I am driving, I will try to calm myself down for my safety and for the safety of others. Another step is to pay attention to my surroundings and everything in front of me. Doing this allows me to understand what is going on around me, which can prevent accidents. Another step is to not drive when I am not in the right state to drive. For example, If I am very angry. The last step is to continue to practice driving in empty parking lots. This is beneficial because as a beginner, the practice helps me to increase my skills and become more of an expert, before going onto the actual road.
