Driving Mistakes

Driver’s education is so important in today’s society. Without driver’s education imagine the amount of accidents people would get into. I believe that driver’s education can limit the number of road accidents and deaths. When I took my driver’s education class I learned about how dangerous texting and driving is and why you shouldn’t do it. I also was able to learn about how to drive safely in the snow and what to do if I slip on black ice. These are things I wouldn’t have learned otherwise without driver’s training. I think with driver’s education it should be required to have driving time with a certified instructor because then students can truly learn how to drive safely. I also believe it’s important to share with students factual statistics about drinking and driving and texting and driving, in order to show how important it is to always be focused on driving. Steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths with driving are very important. I believe every car should be required to have a breathalyzer before starting to ensure no more drinking and driving. I also believe that police need to pull over more people for texting and driving because it is so dangerous. I also believe no matter how old you are you should continue getting tested for driving to ensure you continue to be a safe driver. I think driver’s training was something that really helped me learn to be a good driver. Although I have made some driving mistakes I am glad I’ve been able to learn from those mistakes without people getting hurt. I have been in two car accidents. The first one was when I was 16 years old and was turning left on a yellow. A car accelerated past their yellow and bashed into my car. Thankfully no one was in the passenger seat, so no one was badly injured. It was the scariest moment of my life and to know that it could’ve been avoided is even worse. If I just waited till the light turned red or waited for it to be clear of oncoming traffic I could’ve saved my car. My second car accident was when my friend was driving my car unsafely. He didn’t even have a license, I realize I should’ve never let him drive. I was tired and didn’t want to drive home from work but I should’ve been smarter. He tried to accelerate past a car but he scratched them so we had to pull over. It was the worst moment for me and I immediately regretted letting him drive. I think what i’ve learned from these experiences is to always stay alert when I’m driving. I also have learned to never let anyone drive me who I don’t see their license first. But, now that I’m 18 I believe I’m such a better driver than when I was 16. I’m glad I was able to learn how to drive better through experience and driver’s training.
