A driver’s guide to safety
A driver’s guide to safety
Driving is one of the quickest and most preferred means of transportation today. It makes life easier and convenient and enables people to travel easily. This prevents people from worrying about getting in a congested bus or busy train. Driving in a passenger vehicle is extremely important for many people, especially if an individual lives in an area or community whereby buses and trains are not readily available. This makes driving in a car the main and only option of transportation. The United States of America enables vehicle owners to be as young as sixteen years of age and this leads to the statistics recorded in 2019, that approximately there are 93% of households that own cars or passenger vehicles. This appears to be a positive thing, but the downside are the many deaths and injuries recorded due to road accidents. Some of these road accidents are associated to drunk driving (over 50% as of 2020 in the United States), faulty brakes (about 5% of the 5.6 million car crashes each year in the United States), unavoidable collisions with other cars, texting and driving (about 1.6 million per year in the United States).
Driver education is essential to reduce the number of people dying or getting injured in road accidents and it enables people to practice safety protocols on the road to reduce mortalities. Driver education will teach individuals to drive at a safe speed limit based on where they are driving, and the state that they are living in. Driver education will make drivers more attentive and alert to their safety as well as their passengers and pedestrians alike.
There are many steps that can be taken to reduce deaths related to driving. Some of these steps is to teach people to use Bluetooth in their cars when they are on a phone call, so they do not get distracted from the road and cause an accident to themselves or a pedestrian. It is also important to create advertisements on TV and social media platforms that will teach people the dangers of texting and driving. It can be suggested that people turn their phones off if they feel they are likely to get texts during driving. This is to avoid answering the text that could cause road fatality. In addition to that, the consumption of alcohol should be strongly discouraged before and after driving. If individuals want to drink alcohol, they should not be drunk or be in an imbalanced state during driving that can cause car accidents.
There are several steps that can be taken to reduce road accidents and some of these things are the simple things to be done as part of the routine vehicle checkups. It is important to have your engines and brakes checked. Also, it is important to check the brake fluids that play an important role in transferring movement and forces that is created when the brake pedal is pressed on. When this is not properly checked the car cannot brake when it should, and it could move at an uncontrollable velocity which can cause accidents on the road. Also, it is essential to have the tires checked frequently and to always have a spare tire for replacement in case of an emergency. Finally, it is important to avoid driving past the speed limits that can cause injury to a pedestrian and cause unexpected collision with other cars. If all these safety measures are taken seriously and practiced, then road accidents and injuries can be drastically reduced.
