The Responsibility of Driving

I got my license a year ago, I do drive sometimes but my parents are still a little scared to let me drive by myself because they are worried something could happen to me. Most people know that accidents are most likely to happen with teenagers driving. It is possible that my family has some PTSD from past experiences with car accidents which makes it worse. My uncle, my mom’s brother, lost his life when he was 19 years old because his friend was driving drunk. My uncle didn’t drink and he kept telling his friend to let him drive but his friend did not let him. His friend didn’t die but unfortunately my uncle did. It was very hard and painful for all my family. When I was taking driving lessons I was very nervous at first, scared to hit something or someone. I was also scared that I wouldn’t get my license. Thankfully nothing bad happened, I passed both of my tests on the first try and I was very happy. My mom is still a little scared to let me drive by myself because she doesn’t want to lose me like she lost her brother, that is why I always drive carefully and follow all the rules. Another similar, but not as bad, experience that I’ve had with irresponsible drivers is when I was younger, I went to a party with my grandparents but it was getting late and I was tired so I told my grandma I wanted to go home. She didn’t drive so my uncle had to take us home but he had been drinking a lot and he was a little drunk. I didn’t think much of it when I got into the car because I thought it was okay for him to drive. After a couple minutes of him driving he started to lose some control of the car and that’s when I started to get scared. I remember I was hugging my grandma and praying that we would get home safe. Luckily, we did and nothing bad happened. Since I was younger my mom would always tell me to never drink and drive, I’m sure most parents tell their kids the same thing. She tells me that if I ever feel like I can’t drive to just call her and she will pick me up wherever I am or whatever time it is. This is something that we could do to help reduce the number of deaths related to driving, call someone that we are comfortable with or someone we trust to pick us up. This would reduce a lot of accidents because teenagers, or even adults, would not be driving when they are not 100% conscious. Taking driving lessons from an expert is another very good option that should be available to everyone, maybe at a lower price because not everyone has enough money to pay for driving lessons, that is why some people don’t take them and just learn by themselves. Doing this would help reduce deaths in car accidents. Sometimes we just learn with our parents or other family members who want to teach us because they think they know everything and we don’t need to spend so much money and time taking driving lessons. I started doing that with my parents before taking driving lessons because they didn’t want to spend so much money. I think this is an investment that is worth it. Driving education is very important to reduce the number of deaths in car accidents. Everyone needs to know all the rules of driving to make sure they will drive carefully and responsibly. There are a lot of rules and it can be hard to learn everything, I remember it was sometimes boring to sit there reading books about driving safely or listening to the professor talk about it, but we should all take time to learn them and help reduce the number of deaths. To me, being a safe driver is extremely important because I would not like to get into an accident, cause an accident, or have someone else in my family or friends to have one either. It is very sad everytime we see how many accidents have killed people. I’ve had a few experiences that remind me how important driving safely is, and also that driving is not something simple that anyone can do or take as a joke. There are many ways we can reduce the number of deaths in car accidents, but the first thing, in my opinion, is to teach our families the importance of it and let them take driving lessons from an expert. I hope someday we can have fewer deaths in car accidents.
