It’s
as easy as 1,2,3: Steps to preventing the Wreck

Driver’s
education teaches their students about how the car works, the
repercussions of drinking and driving, and how to drive the car. If
every 16 year-old new driver went through the actual class of drivers
education they would understand the harm of irresponsible driving.
They would know about the possibly distractions that would cause an
accident or even the prime reason of not being drunk and driving.
With all the information that the driver’s school gives the
student, it would help the number of deaths reduce considering it
would make the people or students aware of the distractions. There
are three steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths
related to driving. Step One is to be aware of possible distractions
on the road. Some would include: phones, looking around, and even
friends in the car. If the student is aware it is now their
responsibility to remember the repercussions or possibilities that
could happen on their drive. Step Two is to set rules for one’s
car. Once a new driver, the teen needs to set rules that have not
been put in place by the state government. Some rules may include:
only having 1 friend in the car at once, no loud music playing from
the driver’s phone, and driver’s phone put in the middle console in
the cup so that they aren’t tempted to pull their phone out. Step
Three is to have accountability of the other two rules listed above.
When driving, the driver needs to have accountability so that they
aren’t distracted with their phones, or distractions in the car. If
that one friend, holds them accountable the car is no longer a moving
accident waiting to happen.

Yes,
all these steps is if the drivers is intentional about reducing the
number of driving related deaths. For older drivers, it would be
harder to put in place new rules considering they have more
experience. But, if they want to make a difference they would take
more precautions than staying in their norms. My best friend and her
family was in a car accident back in 2016. They were turning right
when the light was green and a car plowed through the red light and
hit the drivers door and almost killed the mom. My best friend was
fine and so was her sister. The mom suffered a punctured lung,
fractured her spine and her neck, broke three ribs, and had a
laceration to her spleen. The laceration to her spleen made her lose
a lot of blood at the scene of the accident and almost passed away.
The other driver was supposedly on her phone when she ran a red
light. Sometimes I find myself looking at my phone right whenever I
receive a notification. I am going to start using my Do not Disturb
for driving which would lead me to not text or be distracted while
driving.
