BOOOOM!!! Ears ringing, head pounding, body numb. It took me a moment to realize what had just happened I was in a car accident. After the shock, I quickly called 911 and the police and ambulance rushed to the scene. On my way home from a friend's I stopped at a four-way intersection, the light was red. Then the light changed to green I started driving but not until I looked to my left and another car was coming right of me and before I could do anything it was too late; I had already crashed. The other person was in critical condition; I just had minor cuts and bruises. From the looks of it what caused them to crash into me was they were on their phone; I saw it still in their hand when the police were pulling them out of the car. I was lucky that day, on that terrifying day the other driver was at fault, he paid for my car to get fixed through his insurance. It could have been a lot worse, but I thank God every day I am still alive.
The point of sharing my story with others is for them to hear the consequences of what could happen to them when distracted. The first step to becoming a safer and better driver is telling you what not to do—being on your phone by taking your eyes off the road can cost someone else's life not just your own. Also, do not drive while intoxicated; not only can it harm you but also others on the road. Instead, have someone else who is sober to drive if not don’t risk it. Second, be aware of your surroundings by determining what other drivers will do. Driving defensively is an important part of being a safe driver because you must always anticipate potential issues before they arise and can help avoid crashes and other incidents.
A way to reduce the number of deaths related to driving is not speeding. The faster you drive, the slower your reaction time will be if you need to prevent an accident and the longer it will take you to stop the car. So, obey the traffic laws and reduce your speed. The weather conditions can play a major role in driving-related deaths. Rain creates slick and dangerous surfaces for cars and trucks, often causing automobiles to spin out of control or skid across the road while braking. Winter months can be difficult. Snow can mix with water and become sloshy, and ice can be difficult to see and prevent. Driving while intoxicated is an important factor involving the increasing number of deaths and a way to reduce the numbers is to have someone else who is sober to drive.

When people don’t enroll in a driving education class, they are more likely to violate rules, get a ticket, be involved in fatal accidents or death, and get into accidents. Some young drivers are over-confident, which can lead to reckless driving.
