Drive Safe Fool!!!
Drivers do not often time do not realize or become aware of the implications of controlling a hunk of metal that weights over 2,000 pounds moving at a rate of 40 miles per hour five or take. In comparison to our fragile, frail, and tender human bodies, you would think that we would drive around in armored suits because the risk of death is extremely high once driving over 55 mph. Besides that, once on the road we have made an unconscious decision to allow our lives to be in the hands of others, implying that not only are we responsible for our own lives, but the lives of every single person that pass by on the road.
First of all, the significance of driver education should be treated as one of the most important and delicate pieces of education in the world. There are many rules to the road that if even one is broken, could cause an entire family to lose their life. There are signs, speed limits, driver etiquette that if not properly attended could bring about dire consequences. Driver education is a must, and it also sifts out the possible driver that may not have the proper capacity to understand what it takes to operate a motor vehicle. Giving a driver the proper education, gives that person a safety net to reduce the chances of making a mistake or breaking a rule because they didn’t know and killing someone.
Consequently, many steps can be taken to prevent excessive deaths on the road. The first being, following the rules, but to be further specific, attentiveness is a must. How can one expect to safely drive if one cannot notice what is happening or they are too busy texting to be able to figure out that they are making a grave mistake on the road. Not texting is a definite rule. Understand the signs and being prepared for changes in different areas can further prevent death. Signs give us a warning about unfamiliar terrain, turns, or unexpected obstacles on the road that may be harmful to us or others. If one does not have the proper understand of this “sign language” the one might as well be running their car into a brick wall. Being prepared for different types of weather is also a step one needs to consider whenever driving. Since the weather affects our ability to drive in differing levels, one needs to be aware of how their vehicle will behave to further prevent a deathly accident.
Ironically, I’ve actually been in several car accidents. They were all due to me being inattentive and not having my eyes focus on what was right in front of me. The first time I crossed a highway into a merge lane and while I was doing that, I was checking behind me as I merged and the person in front of me had stopped in the merge lane and I bumped into her. Luckily, I had not floored the gas pedal, or it could have been way more damaging. The second wreck (with the same car) I was stopped in traffic at the beach waiting to move forward and as I was arguing with my ex, and looking down at my phone not the road, I ran my car into the back of a pick-up truck. Fortunately, the only thing that got hurt was my ego and my car, but it was all a mistake due to my carelessness. I actually happened to be the worst drive in my family, as nobody but I has had wrecked (even though they weren’t as serious).
We can all take so many steps to being a more prepared driver. We can recall the rules and etiquette we learned in driving school instead of trying to make our own rules. Use our blinkers. Actually, stop at stops signs and red lights. Use our mirrors before making any kinds of lane changes. Driving within the boundaries of the speed limit. Making a point to notice what our fellow drivers are doing, remembering to use our headlights, being properly prepared for weather changes, following through with proper maintenance on our vehicles, not taking risks, and being aware of our own emotionally and physical state can contribute to our safety and the safety of others. There’s no reason why one should put oneself in danger for means of looks or superficial when nine times out of ten our main goal is to get from point a to point b.
In conclusion, driving needs to be taken seriously with many factors coming into play in order to make driving experience safe. The responsibility falls onto everyone on the road. Pedestrians included. Education, attentiveness, and respect are three key ideas that contribute to the idea of driving safely and responsibly to further make our roadways less hazardous and less dangerous.
