BDI Eligibility Requirements
After receiving a traffic violation, the Michigan Department of State (DOS) will notify you by mail if you are eligible to take a Basic Driver Improvement Course (BDIC). By passing a BDIC, drivers are given the opportunity to avoid points on their records and increases in insurance premiums. Drivers can only use BDI Courses to avoid points on their driving record once.
If you have received a traffic ticket in Michigan after December 31, 2010, you may be eligible to take a BDI course if you meet the following requirements:
- Your traffic violation is not criminal offense.
- You have two or fewer points on your record and a valid, non-commercial license.
- Your traffic violation was not committed in a Commercial Motor Vehicle.
