Navigating the Road to Safety

Every day I see on the news or Tik Tok, that a car accident is being reported. According to Clark Law, in 2022 there was an average of 1,050 accidents per day across the state of Florida. The main causes are usually speeding, drunk driving, or distracted driving. Each time I press my foot on the brake and reverse out of my driveway to get to my destination, there’s a possibility of me dying in a car crash. As a new driver, those numbers are why my mother teaches me driver education is so important. It’s crucial to take driver education seriously because just in one second a car becomes a weapon to kill anyone in its path.

My mother is a retired police officer, who still upholds those qualities and values she obtained from serving. In the academy, the officers go through an intensive driving training program due to their future many miles and hours and the hazards of their duty. As a result, my mother passed on her knowledge of driver education to me. Learning how to defensively drive is another step toward lessening the number of car accidents. Defensive driving allows one to safely counteract potential hazards to prevent danger on the road. This allows me to feel confident on the road rather than driving fearfully which can lead to an accident.

Emphasizing the importance of being alert, safe, and tactical on the road has benefitted me on the road greatly. Driver education programs present safe driving techniques, and the responsibilities of operating a vehicle and teach the driving laws. I had the opportunity to receive a free driver education. Similarly, I believe to lessen the deaths caused by accidents, there should be lower-cost opportunities to learn road safety. Therefore, more people would be willing to educate themselves on how to protect themselves and others on the road.

Furthermore, laws have been set and the consequences of breaking those laws are implemented heavily by law enforcement. The presence of law enforcement also is a valuable step in lowering the rate of car crashes. Acts such as handing out tickets or pulling a reckless driver overall contribute to the cause of saving lives. I believe that the consequences also prevent car crashes because drivers never want to get into trouble with the law. When we are educated about the outcomes of not following the rules, that causes us to abide by them more. Also grasping the idea that breaking these laws can also result in death adds to the precautions of operating a vehicle.

I make it a priority to practice safe driving on the road. Primarily to reduce my chances of being distracted, I never pick up my phone while driving. There have been numerous times when my friends and family are driving irresponsibly. Whether they are driving and looking at their phones or speeding down the road. I never go without saying how uncomfortable I am with their actions and what can result from their ill-considered acts. Additionally, it is ensured that my passengers and I are wearing seatbelts before I begin driving. The odds of dying in an accident while wearing a seatbelt are significantly lowered compared to not wearing one.

I have personally never experienced a car crash but the stories I have heard from my friends and others are terrible. Driving is never risk-free and should be taken seriously. People who are dying in car accidents every day were once sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters to someone. Imagine getting the phone call that your family member has passed away in a car accident due to a reckless driver or a freak accident that occurred. It’s heartbreaking news.

That’s why I support the cause of improving driver education across the nation. It’s all about creating safer roads for everyone. By providing comprehensive and effective driver education programs, we can equip drivers with the necessary skills, knowledge, and awareness to make better decisions on the road. This means fewer accidents, reduced injuries, and ultimately, lives saved. Plus, it helps instill responsible driving habits from the start, setting a positive example for future generations of drivers.

In conclusion, driver education can help prevent car accidents which are the eighth leading cause of death. Understanding the most common causes of car accidents is a crucial step toward preventing them. Moreover, by instilling a sense of responsibility, awareness, and respect for others on the road, driver education empowers individuals to make informed decisions and engage in safe driving practices. Additionally, driver education plays a crucial role in reducing traffic fatalities by imparting knowledge, fostering responsible behavior, and equipping drivers with the skills needed to navigate the challenges of the road.
