Safe Driving

Driver education is extremely crucial in our society when we are trying to reduce the number of deaths that occur from unsafe driving.  The recent increase in population has also increased the number of vehicles on the road, and it continues to grow distractions faced by drivers. I think it is important to educate young drivers on the necessary skills that need to be taken to ensure other people are safely on the road. Driver education provides drivers with a complete understanding of the traffic rules and regulations. With this knowledge, it ensures that drivers understand their responsibilities behind the wheel. This knowledge included speed limits, right-of-way rules, and proper signal techniques. When drivers use this skill, it helps avoid traffic collisions.

Driver education teaches the importance of safe driving techniques like always maintaining a safe following distance from the car in front of them. The program helps drivers understand how to scan for potentially dangerous situations and try and avoid them at all costs.  The driver program also tries to prepare the driver to predict the actions of another driver on the road to make sure that they are not going to collide. This skill set helps the driver understand how to react quickly to a dangerous situation on the road and thus prevent accidents from happening.

Driver education also ensures that students understand the importance of the decision they make behind the wheel because it can be a life or death-saving decision. This program takes a deep dive into the danger of drunk driving and enforces that the risk is not worth taking and that your life is more valuable than driving home while intoxicated. This program educates its students on the dangers of distracted driving, like texting while driving or just their phones in general. More accidents happen because the driver is distracted and not paying attention to the road. The program enforces the need for seat belts, which have been proven to save lives. This program educates the students on how to remain calm while driving and not get frustrated or upset at another driver on the road because it can cause them to make impulsive decisions that can put themselves and others in danger.

The biggest step our society can take to reduce the number of deaths in accidents is to insist that where single person in a car buckles up. This is so important, one of my classmates was heading off campus to get some lunch before returning to class. For lunch, we only had 30 minutes, and he wanted to make it to a fast-food place that was 20 minutes away from campus. He was speeding to get there as fast as he could so that he could make it back to school on time and not get tardy. Unfortunately, because we were speeding he went around a corner too fast, flipped his car over, and almost fell into the river that was next to the road. When we all heard the news at school, he came back a few days later to tell us what had happened, and he explained that he was so lucky and that he would not be on this earth anymore if he had not put his seatbelt on. This story was so scary to listen to, I now will always make sure that I buckle up every time I am in a car. Another way to prevent deaths related to drivers is to never be under the influence of any kind of alcohol or drugs while driving. One of my parent’s friends’ family was hit by a drunk driver. Inside the car was a young girl who was only 3 and then her two parents. The father was driving, and the mother was in the passenger seat when a car went way over the speed limit drifted into their side of the road, and hit them. This head-on collision took the lives of the young girl and the mother, the father faced some serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital. I cannot even begin how that man hit them felt, I will never drink or be under the influence of drugs while driving because I do not want to be the reason someone has passed.

I have been in a car accident before, and I can tell you that it is a very scary feeling. I was in the car with my mom and two sisters, and my mom was driving, I was still in the front passenger seat. We stopped at a red light will several cars in front of us. Then all of a sudden, I heard a loud bang and the car moved forward. My mom and I looked at each other in disbelief at what had just happened, he got rear-ended. My mom told him and my siblings to stay in the car, and she would go look at the damage. I picked up the phone to call 911, and all I could feel was this awful feeling of fear. I was constantly shaking because I had never been in an accident before. The police did end up showing up and helping us out my mom had to fill out some paperwork, and we were on our way out. I was shaken up for the rest of the day. My family and I had no idea how this happened, but we all assumed that she was not paying attention to the road. As a young driver, I will always pay attention and use caution while I am driving on the road.
