Safe Driving

Driver education is important in reducing the amount of deaths related to driving because if more people are educated on how to drive safely there wouldn’t be as many accidents. Driving isn’t as simple or easy as it may seem; lots of different things need to be done to ensure you and everyone else on the road is safe. Drivers education teaches you safe driving techniques like how close your following distance from another car should be and where and when you should stop for traffic lights and stop signs. Most accidents happen during rain or snow storms and driver education teaches you how to drive during certain types of weather like if it’s snowy or rainy you need to drive more slowly and carefully. There are many different types of signs on the road and some are really easy to understand like speed limit or stop signs but others are not as simple like sharp turns or merging signs and by taking drivers education you can know what every sign on the road means which would then decrease your chances of getting in an accident. Driver’s education also teaches you how to handle situations like if there’s a hazard on the road like an animal or debris or if another driver on the road is driving recklessly. Drivers ed teaches you that you need to be very aware and always observant while driving because if you’re not paying attention to everything around you at all times you have a greater chance of getting into an accident. Drivers ed teaches you what to do if you’re feeling tired or angry and how to safely deal with it because feeling these ways are a huge distraction. To reduce the number of deaths related to driving I think we should require anyone who was in an accident and was at fault to retake driver’s education so they can learn what they did wrong. I also think we should make the consequences for distracted driving a lot greater like jail time or large fees because when someone is distracted while driving they are putting everyone else on the road at risk. I also believe that it should be mandatory that people’s cell phones are out of sight while driving because the cell phone being there is a distraction and most people will probably use it if they can see it. Having more cops posted around busy areas can help drastically decrease speeding which can help people not get in accidents because the faster you are going the slower your reaction time is. I think schools should have a full year optional class dedicated to driving because some people need extra help on driving and it’s more covenant. Drivers ed should also be free or cheaper because not everybody can afford a drivers education. I personally have never been in a car accident but my parents have been in one. It was around 3 years ago and they were driving on the highway and they were hit by another car. The lady who hit them was at fault because she was on her phone and distracted while driving plus she also did not have insurance which is illegal so it was a double negative. Our car was totaled and her car just had a couple scratches on it. Luckily everyone survived and only had minor injuries but it could have been alot worse and I’m grateful it wasn’t. I haven’t seen friends/family driving irresponsibly but I have seen other people driving irresponsibly. While I was out doing my driving lessons I saw several other drivers on their phones while driving. I saw a couple cars going over the speed limit and one even passed through a solid line which isn’t allowed. I’ve seen people park badly and speed through parking lots like they are on the main road.To be a safer driver I can be more alert and vigilant while driving. I can and will put my phone on silent while I am driving to prevent that distraction. I can use every safe driving technique I learned in drivers ed so I can keep myself and everyone else on the road safe. I can keep my distance from drivers that are driving recklessly so I am not caught in an accedent.To encourage safe driving I can be an example to others in hope that they follow me and also drive safer. I can also just tell people some safer ways of driving if they don’t already know them.
