How to be a Safer Driver

Having the proper education on safe driving is important. It can help keep many people safe and aware of the dangers. In this essay, I will be talking about the many ways to reduce death, and why learning about safe driving is important, as well as my experiences and the steps I can take to be a safer driver as well as help others be safer drivers.

Driver’s education is very important, not only so you can get your license, but also to keep you and others safe when you are driving. Driver’s education shows many ways that accidents can happen and explains how to prevent this. Learning about how to drive safely can reduce deaths. Deaths can happen in many ways including reckless driving, accidents, drunk driving, and many others. Learning the simple steps on how to drive or park safely can make a huge difference when you follow these steps. The things you learn in driver’s education can help you take precautions when driving so that you are prepared for an emergency. Following general rules can save so many people from accidents. Just learning the general information learned in drivers education can help save many lives. 

As a driver, you should take steps to ensure that everyone in and outside of the vehicle is safe. As a teen driver, there are many distractions. You could be distracted by your phone going off. You could be distracted by having friends in the car with you. There are so many things that are distracting to teen drivers. Taking the right precautions when getting into a vehicle and making sure that there are no distractions are with you. This can make sure that everyone stays safe. There are general rules that can be used as well. Making sure you check both ways before turning can keep you and others safe from a car accident. Checking your blind spots can make sure that people or other vehicles are safe as well as you. Using your blinkers or other signals can tell others what you are doing before it happens allowing for more time for the other person to react. Making sure you turn off your high beams when there is oncoming traffic can allow for the other driver to see better and make sure that they can drive properly. Using these general rules can be so simple and also protect many lives from little mistakes where you don’t see something and have an accident. 

I have had some experiences with accidents and irresponsible driving. When I first started driving, I went and picked up some drinks for me and my family. I had the drinks sitting in the seat. As I was turning a corner, one of the drinks had fallen over. I reached over to catch it. While I wasn’t looking, I had driven over the median into the opposite lane. When I went over the median I hit a sign. I thankfully was clear of other cars and made it to pull over. I was by myself and didn’t know what to do at the time. There was a little damage to the car but no one was hurt. This could have ended very badly but thankfully nothing terribly bad happened. I have driven with people who have been irresponsible while driving. There have been times where the driver I was with would speed or not watch where they were going. There have been times where my parents don’t check their blind spots fully before merging into another lane. I had a friend get into an accident on the way to school one day because another student didn’t have working lights and didn’t indicate that they were turning. This could have easily been prevented if the other student had checked everything before they had started driving or even used hand signals. There are many little things that I have seen people do that could easily cause an accident if it was a different situation. 

As a driver, there are many steps I can take to be safer and help others drive better as well. Making sure I follow the rules when driving can help others from getting hurt. I can take steps to learn more about safe driving and help educate others. If I see something that can potentially be dangerous, I can talk to the driver about taking a safer approach to what happened. I can make sure that all distractions are put aways while I drive so that I am not tempted to get distracted. I can educate those in the car with me and make sure they don’t distract me or get in my way while I am driving. There are so many steps I could take as a person to be a safe and better driver and help others do the same. Even in an accident there are steps I could take to make the impact less on all ends. 

Making sure that you and those around you are educated on safe driving and take the proper steps to be safe is very important. These simple steps and precautions can help save many lives in the long run. It can also help many others keep themselves safe as well as others.
