The importance of a good driver behind the wheel

What makes you a good driver? Just by respecting the driving norms does not make you a totally prudent driver for society. Today, there are many distractions that can be the cause of an accident which can affect not only the driver, but also everyone involved. Because of this, drivers have to go beyond the rules, and settle limitations on actions which can be the trigger for a fatal distraction. These actions can help prevent a catastrophic accident that potentially will harm the lives of many innocent people.

Having an adequate driver education can be a key tool which could assist the driver to be more cautious when driving on the road. This is vital information since many people are exposed and trust that the person behind the wheel has the ability to protect themselves and the people around them. Many studies show that young new drivers are more likely to commit a violation or be involved in a traffic accident. This demonstrates how having a good driver’s education can prevent accidents which could be avoided by a driver who is more conscious about the driving safeties.

In my personal experience, I have seen many people close to me drive in a reckless manner, which has caused me to be afraid of being with them behind the wheel. One of these cases involved a friend who was trying to answer a message on her phone while driving in the highway. At the time of the event, I panicked and decided not to remain silent, since that action could have had very serious consequences for us and to the other drivers in the scene. These occasions made me realize that many people, after already having more experience behind the wheel, consider that they may not take driving rules so seriously. Many of them consider that their actions may be harmless and that they cannot cause any harm.

From my standpoint, I believe that to avoid the number of deaths caused by an irresponsible driver, we should always regardless of the conditions that we may find ourselves, respect and follow step by step everything we learned during our driver’s education, with the finally of avoiding an accident. This is because many accidents occur for reasons that we already know are very dangerous to do during driving time. This can include eating, putting on makeup, or replying to a message. According to research, the number one cause of car accidents in the United States is due to distracted drivers. It is for this reason that despite thinking that you are already a capable driver enough to be able to do another action while driving, should be the first thing to avoid.

After observing how my close friends and family members make mistakes when driving, I decided to improve my driving skills to become a more efficient driver for my community. To achieve that improvement, I decided to keep away from any type of distraction during my driving hour, including not answering calls or text messages until I have arrived at my destination or making a quick stop to answer. Although sometimes we may think that a call can be of the utmost importance, our lives, and the safety of those around us are more important than answering a call. By improving my driving, I made the decision to also give assistance to people so that they can exceed the standards of safe driving as well. To achieve this goal, while being a passenger with other drivers, I try to give advice or tips with the aim that the next time they drive again, they can be more careful, responsible, and cautious at the moment of driving.

Last but not least, it is crucial to know that not only distractions can be the cause of accidents, but also driving at high speed, vehicle malfunctions, or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol are several other causes for car accidents to occur. Drivers must never forget that driving rules cannot be broken despite having a lot of experience behind the wheel. We all have people who care about us, goals to accomplish, and dreams we want to achieve. For this to be possible, we must be very careful not to take away from ourselves or other people these opportunities that we have in life that only happens once. By being safe drivers on the road, we can all reach our destination in a safe way to continue creating more dreams and building more memories of our life.
