Practicing Safety Behind the Wheel and on the Road.

Drivers Education Course teaches the driver judgment, common sense and defensive driving. The course also teaches important factors about driving in all sorts of different weather drivers that are especially young and have not completed a drivers education course are “75% more likely to get a traffic ticket, 24% are most likely to be involved in a fatal or injury car accident and 16% more likely to have an accident.” Stated researchers of the Nebraska Prevention Center for Alcohol and Drug Abuse.

Taking a driver’s education course will keep you aware of your surroundings and get you into the habit of staying off of your phone. You learn more about safety and rules of the road when you attend a course. It’s also good to attend the course because it gives you a leeway to ask any unanswered questions you may have about safety or even general questions about driving. To limit the numbers of deaths related to driving some steps that can be taken are: To develop the right attitude and mindset about driving. Most drivers that are young tend to make careless decisions when they get behind a wheel. Some are not fully mature or do not have the right skills or knowledge when it comes to operating a vehicle that weighs thousands of pounds. Your life along with your passengers life and other drivers are at stake.

Before getting behind a wheel you should get as much practice driving as you can. A parent, legal guardian or any other adult with a valid drivers license should have some type of routine or schedule with you and stick to it until you have a valid driver’s license of your own. If you’re just starting to drive whether you have a permit, a license or just practicing, driving at night should be avoided. As it states on “Geico.com,” “ The risk of a fatal crash is three times higher at night than during the day.” You should also limit your passengers, avoid underage drinking and drug usage. It’s illegal and let alone dangerous to you and the people around you. Another step to be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving would be to educate yourself about driving in below par weather.

The biggest precaution to take is using a cell phone. According to NHTSA “Every year, about 400 fatal crashes are caused by texting and driving in America.” You’re more likely to crash while using a cell phone because you are not aware of your surroundings or paying attention to the road and what is happening in front of you. I have experienced being in multiple car accidents, some were at fault and some weren’t. The very first car accident I was involved in took place my senior year of high school. I was changing my tire on the side of the road. I was in the trunk getting the spare tire and the older woman who hit me wasn’t paying attention to the road. She swerved off of the road and onto the side of the road where I was at and hit me. I was in the hospital because my knee shifted out of its place and I couldn’t stand or walk for weeks. and sBeing in a car accident is a terrible feeling, when I find myself in that situation I get really bad anxiety attacks and start having a mental breakdown. I can own up to being irresponsible when I first started driving but the more lessons I took and actually took everything into consideration I can say I became a wonderful driver.

I have seen friends and family driving irresponsibly like speeding, running stop signs, illegal turns and other things in that error. They were penalized by the law for the things that they’ve done. Some of them had to take a defensive driving course in order to retain possession of their drivers license again. Steps you can take to be a better and safer driver. Step One: Focus on your driving, always keep your attention and eyes on the road at all times! Step Two: Plan ahead, anything could happen on the road so if you’re running late next time you should try to manage your time and leave early enough to be on time. Step Three: Go the speed. You want to maintain the correct speed limit and let others pass by you, the faster you speed the more damage can be caused if an accident were to occur.

Knowing the rules of the road are very important; it can save you and other people’s lives. Keeping your distance and paying attention to the flow of the traffic is another great way to be cautious following those defensive driving steps can help reduce your risk of being behind the wheel.
