“Careless Driving and its Implications”

Deaths due to accidents have been a menace in America. Many Americans lose their lives due to reckless driving, something I believe can be eliminated through driver education. Over 300,000 Americans die or get injured every year due to avoidable accidents. In order to reduce the deaths due to accidents, driver education must be taken seriously. The alarming deaths and injuries are clear proof of why driver education is needed.

As the old saying goes, education is key. Driver education is needed to equip people with skills to help them drive safely and effectively. Without driver education and practices, drivers will not be equipped with the necessary skills to maneuver the road every day as they use the roads. Without proper education, drivers will be lost in the world of high-speed vehicles, and they may not make the right decision in those moments, thus leading to road accidents. Solid driver education will help one to make the right decision when faced with a critical challenge while driving. The majority of road accidents are caused by teens aged 16 to 19. The majority of these teens have no driver education and make reckless decisions while driving, thus leading to road fatalities. With proper driver education, the teens would know what is expected while driving. Driver education is important in reducing road accidents by providing drivers with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for their safety and the safety of pedestrians. With proper driver education, drivers will know the importance of obeying traffic laws and avoiding distractions like alcohol while driving. The competence of drivers will help reduce the number of accidents while driving.

Traffic accidents can be reduced significantly if drivers obey traffic laws and instructions. With proper driver education, drivers will know traffic laws, and obeying the laws will help reduce the number of accidents on our roads. The government should ensure all those driving are licensed drivers who understand all traffic rules. Another way to reduce deaths due to accidents is by designing smarter streets. Designing safe streets will increase visibility, and drivers will be able to make informed decisions while driving. An example of effective street design is the design of traffic circles which will help reduce speeds at intersections. Another step to help reduce accidents is to avoid distractions while driving. Drivers should avoid distractions like driving while drunk as this makes them make an impaired judgment, thus putting them and other road users at risk.

I can vividly recall an accident in which I was involved. Approximately three years ago, a teenage driver caused a pileup of more than seven cars. I was in the middle of it, and I felt like my life flashed for a moment. The teenager driver closely followed the car I boarded and hit it from behind while at a dead stop at the traffic light. He was at high speed and wouldn’t control himself; thus slammed the car I boarded from behind. It was clear that the young man was either distracted or was not acquitted well with traffic rules. Our car was hit with a big impact forcing our car to hit the car in front of us, and the car in front of us hit the next car. The scene became chaotic as people developed some injuries, but I was lucky not to get injured. This accident involved seven cars, but the teenage driver was responsible for the accident. He was at high speed without considering the need to stop at dead stops to observe traffic lights. This situation taught me the importance of having sufficient driver’s education early in life.

The first step I will take to be a better driver is staying focused while driving. I believe driving is a thinking task, and you have to be focused on your thinking to make the best decision. You have to think about traffic rules, being aware of vehicles around you, road marking, and checking mirrors. Another step I will take to ensure I am a better driver is to stay alert while driving. By being alert, I will be able to avoid all distractions and keep in mind my safety and the safety of other road users while driving. By being alert, I will ensure I follow cars in front of me at the recommended distance such that when they instantly brake, I will be able to make the right decision. The final step I will take is to always think about safety while driving. I will keep in mind my safety and the safety of other road users while driving.
