California State Identification Cards Application
The DMV also issues state I.D. cards on top of driver’s licenses. These identification cards may be used in any transaction that requires an identity document.
Application for an ID card is open to anyone. The cost is $30 for applying for an original ID, renewing one or changing name. Senior citizens do not have to pay to get their card. Similarly, those who qualify as “homeless” under the McKinney-Vento Act may also get theirs for free. Meanwhile, those who fall under the income bracket set by some assistance programs may pay a lower amount when applying for or renewing an ID card.
