My slogan for
this essay is “Staying Alive is Worth the Drive”…
Driving…what an
amazing part of independence. I remember watching my parents drive
(I was involved in a lot of school and extracurricular activities)
and I could not wait to drive myself to these events. Thankfully, I
have two very careful and patient drivers for parents. They always
leave early to arrive beforehand and that is what they instilled in
me. When it was time for me to start driving, I was nervous, of
course, because the thought of an accident was too scary. I would
think of a student that was lost in high school. She was the
passenger in the car with a inexperienced driver. Her future was
amazing and it was gone in a matter of seconds. The driver was
unhurt, but her life has been altered because her friend is gone
forever.
I try to be a
courteous driver, also. If someone needs to get over, I allow them
that courtesy. I have witnessed drivers speeding up so that the
person with the blinker on cannot get in front of them. I have seen
obscene gestures and heard racist slurs thrown about by people behind
the wheel.
Well, for me
being cautious and observing the road does not guarantee arriving
safely because of the other person, but I do my part to keep the
streets safe by being safe.
