Steering
Away from Danger

Driving
is a privilege that can be taken away in an instant. Whether it is
making a wrong turn on an intersection to underage drinking, being
behind the wheel is not a game but a responsibility. Thus, to reduce
the number of fatalities every year, drivers ed is vital.
Within the umbrella of driving a vehicle, motorcycle, or even a truck
there are concepts that should be known to its users. Taking a
drivers ed course in person or online should be
implemented. Not only will it inform drivers about the potential
risks of driving but encourage safe driving skills.
Additionally, the steps that must be taken to reduce the
deaths caused by driving include implementing knowledge learned in a
driving course onto the road. For instance, driving at the speed
limit, giving the right-of-way to incoming traffic, and having the
car inspected for any malfunctions that may cause incidents. Also,
knowing the laws regarding children, alcohol, and any drug substances
in the vehicle are important. Similarly, car accidents are
infamous for causing severe damage onto innocent people. I for one
have experienced being in a car crash with my family on board. As we
were heading on our way, there was a car on the opposite side of the
road who was going over the speed limit that crashed into us. The
impact caused our right passenger door to sink. My siblings and I
felt the car slam against ours, and we panicked at the thought of
someone being hurt. Thankfully, everyone was safe. Due to that and
other instances that I have heard about, I will be taking steps to
become a safer driver. In the end, driving a car can have
both its perks and downfalls yet to truly be a safe driver one must
take the initiative to do so. By becoming a cautious driver, I can
influence others to do the same. I can start off by either taking a
drivers ed course or buying the drivers handbook. I can
then continue to expand my knowledge about a subject by watching
videos online and look at the information on the Department of Public
Safety website. If I or someone I know has any further questions
regarding driving a vehicle, taking a trip to the local DPS is the
best way to go.
