Driving
is an amazing privilege to have. However, there is a great
responsibility that comes with it. Driving education is
extremely important because it is a matter of life and death. If a
person does not know how to take control of a vehicle, they could
kill others or themselves. That is why it’s important to study
your state’s driver’s manual because it teaches you everything
you need to know about driving, from what every sign means to how to
properly monitor the road. Driving education reduces the number of
deaths resulted from driving because the more people that know how to
use a vehicle, the less likely people are to die as a result of bad
driving.
There
are multiple ways that can reduce the number of deaths related to
driving. First way is to give a thorough driving permit test and
exam. In Pennsylvania, to get a permit a person needs to answer 18
questions correctly. The amount of questions is fine, but those 18
questions need to be directly linked to the causes of accidents.
This means that the permit test needs to pertain to the biggest
reasons why people get into accidents. Another way to reduce
driving-related deaths is by requiring people to use a driving
simulator. Today, in order to learn how to control a vehicle, a
person needs to get experience. That is why permit users are
required to get a certain amount of driving practice hours. The only
problem is, since that person has no experience driving, this puts
people at more risk to be killed by drivers because the inexperienced
person can accidently lose control of their vehicle. That is why
putting people in a driving simulator would be safer, because the
simulation is a fake environment where one can make a mistake while
driving without killing others or themselves in the process.
In
my personal life, I have not been in a car accident nor have I seen
friends or family driving irresponsibly. However, there has been a
moment where a car almost hit me. I was walking to a bus stop, and
while I was about to cross a street, a car kept going through the
stop sign. I had the right of way because I was at an intersection
where there were stop signs at each corner. The car stopped, but
when I went to cross, they started driving before I was across the
street or out of his way. I was almost hit, but then they braked
immediately. This experience shows how important it is to be
properly educated in driving.
The
steps that I can take to be a better and safe driver is to always
watch the road vigilantly. Also, I need to limit my distractions in
my vehicle. Furthermore, I need to thoroughly study the driver’s
manual, even after I get my license, so that I can be refreshed on
the rules of driving. Therefore, driving education is extremely
important.
