This past summer, I took my first segment
of drivers ed in order to hopefully receive my driver’s
license by the spring. In this three-week course I learned a lot
about how to drive, the importance of safety, and the many risks of
being on the road. In the last few months, I have come to realize how
important it was that I took the drivers ed course and paid
attention during it due to the amount of danger that is presented to
me every time I enter a vehicle.
Taking
a class on driving and all of the safety necessary to be on the road
is very important in protecting the life of not only the one taking
the class but the people driving around them. Knowing how to drive
and the rules of the road is critical in reducing the amount of
danger and ultimately the number of deaths due to driving.
Some
steps that incoming driver’s and even experienced ones can take is
to enroll in a nearby drivers ed course if possible, or
study the proper precautions while driving and become a defensive
driver. Simply taking a course that lasts less than a month can
greatly impact the way somebody drives and end up reducing the amount
of people who die due to driving related instances. Furthermore,
becoming a defensive driver rather than an aggressive one
considerably reduces the amount of risk presented while driving
everywhere someone goes.
I
have never been in a major car accident thankfully, but there have
been instances where my friends or family members drove in a way that
was not responsible and put me at a higher risk of an accident.
Although this does not happen often, I have taken more notice of how
other people drive, especially after recently taking the driver’s
education class. Subsequently, whenever I am in a vehicle and the
person at the wheel is not driving responsibly, I try to say
something so that both that person and I are at less of a risk of
getting into a dangerous accident.
Some
steps I can take to make myself a better and safer driver is to look
back at the study materials I received from my drivers ed
course and recall some of the rules and risks I may have forgotten
since I last took the class. Along with looking at those materials, I
can get help from other experienced drivers such as my parents or
some of my friends who have been driving for a much longer time than
I have. Moreover, in order to help others become safer on the road I
could recommend taking a specific drivers ed course to
someone who is younger and thinking about driving soon. If it is an
older driver, I may inform them on a few of the things I learned in
my class and remind them of certain important safety hazards to focus
on.
