The
Importance of Drivers ed

Katherine
Baneck

Throughout
my high school career I have heard a lot about safe driving. Whether
it be through speakers visiting our school, going to driving school,
or even feeling the loss of a fellow student do to reckless driving.
When I was a sophomore and I had to cope with to people my age, in my
community, dying in a car accident. Both instances could have been
easily avoided, but no one thinks it could be them. No one thinks
that their life could be the next one taken by reckless driving.

Throughout
my life I have been given more and more examples of why driver
education is increasingly important, and I think about them all the
time. Drivers ed helps reduce the amount of deaths that result
from driving. I believe that every single person can benefit from
drivers ed and I believe that there would be a lot less tragedy
in communities like mine if drivers ed was more important to
people. I find that so many people go through driving school just to
get through it and not to learn about the actual act of driving. I
hope that that mindset can change and that it can be seen as
something that could save people’s lives.

Drivers
today can do a lot to decrease the amount of fatalities due to
reckless driving. Whether it deciding not to text and drive, calling
for a cab or an uber if they have been drinking, or even deciding not
to drive if they are tired. Driving offers people so much opportunity
but it is also a huge responsibility that can not be taken lightly.
The decision to get behind the wheel of a vehicle can change your
life or someone else’s life forever.

Right
now we can do a lot to make the roads safer, and to make ourselves
better and safer drivers. We can decide right now that if we are not
in the condition to drive that we will not drive. We can say right
now that if the roads are safe to drive on then we won’t go out on
them. We can say right now that everytime we go to drive that car
that our seatbelts will be fastened. There is so much we can decide
to do today, and there is so much we can teach new drivers about.
Drivers ed is critical to the safety of our young drivers and
to reduce the amount of traffic related deaths.

Thank
you for all that you do and for educating the drivers of today. Thank
you for your generosity and for all the hard work you put into
keeping us safe.

Thank
you again
