Ever
since the creation of the automobile, the revolutionary vehicle has
taken the world by storm. In today’s world, almost everyone owns a
vehicle. While cars introduce a whole new world of possibilities for
anyone who owns one, they also bring a lot of responsibilities and
dangers. Considering the threat that a vehicle poses while being
improperly operated, it is crucial that drivers ed is taken
seriously and pushes drivers to be the best they can behind the
wheel.
Traffic
accidents cause an alarming amount of deaths each year. While there
will always be mistakes made on the road, the rates of deaths caused
by traffic accidents can be greatly decreased by educating drivers on
the rules of the road and how to act behind the wheel. Driver
education teaches people how to correctly operate an automobile while
considering all traffic laws, the rules of thumb, and how to handle
unexpected or unwanted situations. If well executed, drivers ed
would prepare drivers for every situation on the road. Proper driver
education has the potential to decrease the number of deaths and
accidents related to driving.
While
some may argue that employing stricter traffic laws will help keep
the public safe, providing a more efficient job of educating drivers
on laws that are already in place and safety precautions that should
always be taken while behind the wheel. Many drivers are very mature
and responsible in recognizing the risk of getting behind the wheel.
However, there are a multitude of risks associated with driving. A
major step in increasing the safety of public traffic would be
instilling responsibility among drivers and enforcing
behind-the-wheel sessions to assure that drivers are competent.
Some
drive with the idea that others should watch out for them; the
reality is that every driver should look out for everyone around
them. While this is the idea in drivers ed, it needs to be
stressed more than ever. In many situations, the driver of the
vehicle is often distracted. The lack of attention can easily cause
an accident. Encouraging drivers to train their focus on the
responsibility of driving and not be distracted by anything or anyone
that could inhibit your ability to drive is key to safe driving.
The
importance of efficient and persistent drivers ed cannot be
explained enough. Many people underestimate the power that they hold
when they hold a steering wheel, but if everyone understood, traffic
would be much safer, traffic accident rates would drop, and traffic
related deaths would decrease.
