Driving
Safely
The
importance of drivers ed in reducing the number of deaths as a
result of driving is that educated drivers react quicker in dangerous
situations. Educating drivers on the risks and hazards that they
might face on the road and how to overcome them better prepares those
drivers to calmly and successfully face those situations. When people
are calmer and are able to react quickly in dangerous situations the
outcomes are better. There would be less deaths and unnecessary
injuries.
Steps
that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving
are stricter punishments and laws for intoxicated and distracted
driving. If people are punished for reckless behavior they are less
likely to do or repeat that behavior. This will make roads safer and
deaths related to driving less prevalent. Cell phone use is one of
the most common forms of distracted driving. Forcing people to turn
off or ignore their phones while driving until they can pull over and
answer them would greatly decrease the amount of damage done by
distracted driving.
I
was in a car accident this week. My sister and I were stopped at a
stop light and someone crashed into the car behind us. Then, the car
behind us crashed into us and we crashed into the car in front of us.
My car’s front and back are smushed and the trunk no longer shuts.
My car had to be towed away and I will not have a car for a while.
The other cars in the accident were also badly damaged and I blame
distracted driving. There is no way that someone can crash that hard
into cars stopped at a designated place of stopping, a stoplight. It
was not even an area where stopping is uncommon such as a backed up
highway; it was a place where stopping happens all the time. For this
reason, I believe that the person who caused the accident was
distracted by something. Luckily, no one was hurt, but in other
instances such as these people are not as lucky.
