Don’t
Be A “Racer”
Few
years ago, before I came to the U.S, country (Vietnam), has a lot of
“racer”. When I rode my bicycle, I saw many people driving bikes
or cars irresponsibly. I don’t understand how those can go on the
road like that, even though they looked like they had a license. I
had experience a moment that I thought I could not have predicted the
outcome of it. It was a summer in 2016, when I on my bicycle to my
basketball club, after a stop at the red sign at the four intersect,
I rode normally, then a bike out of nowhere went pass before my eyes
with a creepy speed. My heart stopped, my legs froze, my arms shaking
for a moment and I thanked God for saving my life. If tried to bike
faster, I could not be here writing this essay about how people
should drive with responsibility. Even when you are riding a
motorcycle or a car you must put your life and other people’s lives
on the top, not showing how fast or how good is your driving skills.
Every
driver should take a driving education to ensure the safety of all
other people. Driving education courses is a major part of reducing
the number of death which is a reason for millions of death in the
U.S and in the world also. Driving courses are designed to create a
safety and became a part of drivers’ sense when driving. It helps
people avoid bad habit when driving such as texting or “be one with
the music.” This sound funny because teens will text and being to
deep with the music anyway, but according to the American Automobile
Association (AAA), these courses may have a high fee, but it saved
thousands of lives. I did not have a driver’s license yet, but I
believe people that finish the course have a higher knowledge about
signs and also have a higher chance to survive than people that did
not finish driving courses.
People
have their own steps to be a better and safer driver as well as help
others become safer on the road. To me the steps are Learn, Watch,
Listen, Drive.
-
Learn
all the road signs, highway procedures, recommended
actions to take to prevent accidents. -
(for
anyone that still not the driver’s license) Watch how your parents
drive and remember what you need to do when joining the road. -
Listen
to people that had driving experience or someone that had been
through car accidents, also listen to your driving teacher. -
Finally
Drive safety with what you’ve learned, listened and watched, spend
less time on phones but your life instead.
My
step can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving
is to avoid my bad habit when driving:
-
Speed:
the reason for many deaths on highways, people don’t understand
the speed limit or don’t even care about it, this will lead to
everyone will become racers on highways. -
Alcohol:
once you drink beer or wine, DO NOT stay behind the wheel, when you
drink, you cannot realize what you actually doing, you can’t see
the road clearly, and “BAM!” accidents happen. -
Distractions:
music and phones are two major distractions when you’re driving,
the car’s radio was invented for a reason, why don’t use it
instead of looking at your phone to change songs.
If
you can attempt to avoid the above bad habit, then you can go on the
road and drive to the future, or you still keep those bad things, you
will become a racer that race to the end of your life really soon.
