Considering
the first time I was given the keys to my mothers vehicle I was
struck with awe. I was completely speechless, the first thought that
came to my mind was what if something happens. However, I realized
that I couldn’t think like that instead I need to stay confident
behind the wheel. I remember the statement my mother told me before I
started to drive which was “it’s not you i’m worried about driving,
it’s everyone else sharing the road with you”. Considering this
statement, I have realized that as a driver you will always know your
move and the things that you think of however, you will never know
the thoughts of another vehicle.
Going
through drivers ed I used the skills and the knowledge that I
took to perform on the road. In that case, the importance of drivers
education in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving
would be to provide student drivers with the knowledge, skills and
attitude to appropriately understand the technique to driving under
specific circumstances. Not only do you learn vehicle safety as a
driver but also the safety as a pedestrian. The skills that you learn
can benefit you potentially as a driver preventing accidents,
especially those resulting in deaths. You may understand the
responsibility that comes with sharing the road. Understanding the
small things can potentially benefit a larger circumstances where
death can be prevented from distractions, uncertainty, and not being
confident. Not only does drivers ed shows you the techniques
that you should take while driving but also, the consequences for
unsafe driving that may occur.
In
that case, potential steps in preventing deaths while driving would
first be to ensure that everyone is wearing a seatbelt in all
vehicles at all times. Ensuring this can prevent passengers from
being ejected when the vehicle comes into contact with something.
Making sure you constantly wear your seatbelt each day, will become
natural and as a habit. As some states have created it illegal to use
your cellular device while driving states should make strict rules
and enforcements to not be able to use your phone while driving.
Being able to multitask is a different story when it is presented
while driving. Taking your eyes off the road can result in negative
actions. For instance, unfortunately, an accident that I had been
involved in as a passenger had not resulted in anything serious
however, they have been solely on a distraction in the vehicle.
Specifically, coming home from a doctors appointment, my mom stopped
at a red light and a car had hit us from behind. Immediately, the
driver came out asking if everyone was okay and said that she was
distracted by her phone admitting being at fault. No one was injured
but solely this was an accident that needs to be considered highly.
Taking your eyes off the road to read a text is not worth it. Within
minutes something can happen. Putting your phone on “do not
disturb” before moving in your vehicle will benefit not only you
but pedestrians and other vehicles around you. Driving slow, being
well aware of your surroundings, understanding the other vehicles
around you, and being able to make quick decisions and actions will
be greatly beneficial while driving. Driving is not an easy task.
Driving is a skill that takes practice and understanding. Always
driving slow and encouraging others to be safe while driving because
losing someone due to being behind a vehicle is completely
devastating. In hopes to decrease, drivers ed is for the
benefit to inform people of the consequences that may occur if unsafe
driving occurs.
