Education
is the way anyone learns anything. Whether it is education from
another person, or education from experience, we all learn from
knowledge. I remember in drivers ed, I was educated on the
risks of impaired driving. After learning about this, I was afraid to
drink and drive, or drive with any amount of distraction, which is
exactly what drivers ed was trying to achieve. Not just
warnings of the drunk driving consequences, but the education of how
bad driving can lead to death, is meant to get new drivers to
recognize the risks and be more careful. Teaching drivers to be
considerate of others is the best way to prevent deaths on the road.
We all share the roads, and are therefore responsible for protecting
the safety of others in addition to ourselves and our passengers.
Impatient and reckless driving does not tend to get one anywhere
faster, and only endangers those around us who are experiencing the
same delays and frustrations. No texting and driving, and no driving
drunk are the two best ways to have safer roads. Growing up, I was
around people who would text and drive. They would not get in a car
accident, but I would always warn them the risks of texting while
driving-even when they didn’t want to hear it. I would recite the
unbelievably true facts and statistics that were told to me in
drivers ed. While on the road today, as a young teenage
driver, I try to keep my music at an appropriate level, make sure
everyone in the vehicle has their seatbelt on, and actually drive the
speed limit. Though following the speed limit is not always accepted
by my passengers or those behind me on the highway, I am aware that
going 55 instead of 60 could be the difference between life and death
for myself or someone else. Whenever I am rushed, I remind myself
that an extra five miles per hour to get somewhere three minutes
faster is not worth anyone’s life.
