The Hope in Driver’s
Education
Many
teens believe that they are invincible, which is not true at all. So
when many teens are driving they believe that when they are going on
their phones, whether it’s texting, calling or snapchatting, going
on your phone while driving won’t just harm the driver but any
passengers and other drivers on the road. What people are sending
over their phone isn’t as important as their life or the others who
are also with them. With the help of drivers ed, we can hope
to bring more awareness to this issue, and that drivers ed
can really help us understand the real dangers of texting and driving
and how to prevent the younger generations from doing it as well.
The
only way to make teens, and adults do not go on their phones when
driving is by creating laws. I understand that GPS is necessary for
situations and in this modern age we all use our phones as our GPS,
but we have to find a way to get people off their phones and eyes on
the road. Getting a ticket could be a great start to having people
get off their phones when driving because nobody likes getting a
ticket. We get tickets for speeding because of it being dangerous to
us and others on the road. Being on your phone while driving also
creates many dangers that speeding does as well, so people should be
getting tickets for it as well.
Not
everyone has experienced a tragic car accident, but crashes are on
the rise because of people being on their phones. I’ve been in an
accident but because of road conditions, not because of somebody on
their phone. It’s still scary that without the distraction of a
phone, but I still had to worry about my safety on the road. I have
been in a car where someone would go on their phone and had to kindly
ask them to put their phone away. I didn’t appreciate that they
could just take it out so easily and start using it when we were
going forty-five mph. It’s very irresponsible because they are not
just risking their lives but also mine, and I feel that my life is
worth so much more than looking at a funny text or snapchat. I always
make sure when I’m with someone or they are with me that phones are
put away and they don’t need to be out for any reason.
While
I don’t go on my phone while driving there are still things I can
do to become a better driver on the road. I can be more aware of
what’s going on on the road around me. I feel I don’t always look
and see whats going on. I also could speed a little less, I don’t
go crazy over the speed limit but in a twenty-five, we all feel the
need to go much faster. I hope for the future that people can feel
relatively safe when their driving on the road. One way I have been
trying to make it safer is that I’ve been able to express my
opinion of phone usage when people are driving and hope that the
people I’m with can just turn off their phones and continue to
drive safely. I just hope that they can also spread that message with
others as well to continue to drive safely and not think that a phone
is a necessity when driving.
Many
teens and adults think they’re a good driver when they’re on
their phones but all it takes is looking up some statistics and
realizing the true dangers that come along with texting and driving.
My friends and I are all able to stay off our phones when driving and
we hope that others can follow in our footsteps because it’s not
that big of a temptation. Driving while on your phone isn’t only
dangerous for you, but any passengers in the car and others on the
road. We need to learn to stray from our phones and hope that our
drivers ed system can start with the younger generations to
keep our roads safer.
