The
Life Decisions made in Drivers
It
was dark outside. The road looked clear. I was sitting on the
passenger seat looking at which song I should play next, not knowing
what was to come in a couple of seconds. My friend was driving 50 mph
on the road when deer leaped to the road hitting the right side of
the bumper. Luckily for us, the deer didn’t jump on the window,
because if it did jump 2 feet in the air toward me, I wouldn’t be
typing this essay. I also had a friend in high school that was killed
when a car was speeding and hit his car as he was at a red light. To
me, drivers ed is extremely important. If we would have driven
slower that night and if that person would have understood the
importance to slow down, tragedies like this would have never
happened.
As
a driver, to stop these incidents from occurring I believe the age to
get a license should increase from 16 to 17. It might not seem to
have any purpose; however, this extra year of brain development can
make a big difference in the choice’s young drivers do and will
decrease the chances of accidents occurring according to
idriversafety.com. If I would have gotten more time to practice
driving and if I would have been older, I would have never got into
my first accident as a 16-year-old. The age to get a driver’s
license must increase. As an 18-year-old college student, driving is
my way of transportation from home to school. As a driver, I want to
stop having one hand on my phone talking or changing music, while I
have my mother hand on the wheel. This practice is very dangerous
because it something happens, I won’t have the proper control of
the car by just having one hand. I can also stop exceeding the speed
limit because by going faster I am endangering other drivers that are
near me, whether it’s hitting a car from the back or not stopping
fast enough to an unexpected and incoming pedestrian.
According
to the statistics provided, it is not acceptable at all that 34,000
lives a year on average should be taken away due to car accidents. I
believe there should be more action done such as increasing the age
to get a license and teaching more about driver safety so that this
number can decrease much more. After all, would you want your child
to drive around people who were not properly trained in driver
safety?
